see if you have an automatic preference or bias
I found this really interesting study/project. I wasn't sure what to expect but I am relieved after finding out my results so far.
Take one yourself! https://implicit.harvard.edu/implici...takeatest.html ETA I did well at first but then I had some that weren't what I had hoped they would be. Last edited by oceanica : 10-29-2009 at 09:01 PM. |

Mine weren't as I would have liked them to have been either.

I found mine rather hilarious. The ones I thought would be a shoe-in at the top weren't. Maybe I'm more open-minded then I think

Interesting! I have no automatic preference regarding race, but slightly prefer straight people to gay people. (Maybe I need to find a therapist.
) Thanks for the link. That was kind of fun! |

Glad to know I have little or no preference for either group! Interesting....

Interestingly enough, it said I have a slight preference for people of the OPPOSITE race than mine. That was surprising to me as I figured I'd be a middle of the line gal...

I picked the skin tone one and got a "Show moderate preference towards darker skin tones".
Not sure what that means, because I don't know that I FEEL a preference? (to any skin tone I mean) I'll take the disability one soon and will totally crack up if it says I have a prejudice there. ![]()

I'm not sure how much stock to put into these things. I felt tripped up when they changed the order, so I don't know how much is me "having a bias" or just me not having hand-eye coordination or being very quick.
Anyone else find the images for gay/straight and fat/thin to just be odd looking? As for my results, of the ones I took so far, I have a slight preference for white people, no preference for gay or straight, slight for Barack Obama (and that was vs Nixon, should have been strong if I'm such an Obama-worshipper, lol!), and I couldn't get through the fat/thin one because the images just looked too weird and I didn't think it would tell me anything anyway. I do want to try more when I have time, it's kind of fun, like playing a video game. I get mad at myself when I hit the wrong key.

I did the test but didn't feel like answering their 100000 questions after. I agree that it seems more a brain exercise than an accurate test.

I wonder what would happen if they did one of these tests for adoptees, aparents & bparents? Open adoption, semi, closed? Would be interesting I think!

Crick, I think they should make a test for that!
I was pretty happy with the fact that I have no preference for aa vs european american. I have no preference for younger or older people, and none for overweight or thin. I have a moderate preference for gay people as opposed to straights. BUT I apparently have a moderate preference for fair skin and am biased thinking that chinese americans are more foreign than european americans. OK I've admitted all my shortcomings. I don't believe these results are accurate. I think I need to stop taking these tests! I still have to do the disability one. |

I don't think it's a "fair" test at all.
It admittedly asks you to push the buttons as fast as you can. I think the "bias" they said I had was more that I was too "quick" and not that I hate a certain race, kwim? IMNSHO, I didn't like AT ALL the fact that the race one 1st started with, I'll paraphrase here, white=good and black=bad. Why didn't they start with black=good? Again, it was more a matter of how my fingers were working vs my racial bias. Sorry, thumbs down on this one.

I agree. I took the religion test, and my faith of choice ended up scoring as the one I related to the least...I don't think that is the reason as much as the fact that I tried really hard to memorize the 4 answers for the two faiths I was least familiar with, and therefore, seemed to answer those quicker than the two I was most familiar with. The answer actually made me giggle, as it says I relate the most with Islamic faith and the least with Christianity, and I am actually a lifelong Christian and have zero knowledge of Islam...Well, except for the 4 answers I was given in this quiz. ![]() |
