Didn't want to hijack other thread but you know, jerks come in so many forms.

I mentioned to my brother that E was in OT (only because he's in school for it so thought it might be a nice topic of light conversation!) I told him a bit about
E's issues which really are mild! Well his energy level is a bit concerning but seriously, he's about as perfect a kid as they come to me! And my brother said:

"Well you knew you weren't going to get a perfect kid when you adopted"

To which I replied "well many kids have these problems"

To which he said "well didn't P (my adopted nephew) have similar problems?"

Ok granted he's "sick" but his mental illness has really burned out, no meds, in a relationship with a great girl and going to school.

He may or may not be racist (I never heard him say anything about my nephew who was born in Colombia) but he is CLEARLY prejudiced regarding adoption. Which is hilarious and ironic to me when his own mental illness basically destroyed my mother!

So how on EARTH could i let my son around him? When my sister hears this she may actually cut him off too. I've already pretty much cut him off for other reasons but this is a reason to KEEP him cut off.

I'm tired of making excuses for him!

Thank you for letting me vent. It was HORRIBLE.

I'm really sorry you have to deal with that!

I don't have any words of wisdom, but I completely understand why you wouldn't want your brother to be around your son. You never know what kind of comments will come out of their mouth. I know your first job is to protect your son. And thats what you are doing!

OOOoooooo...I would have been MAD. Hoppin' MAD.

My sister let it slip one day that "homegrown is best" meaning that biological kids are best. She and I are very, very close, and I just laughed at her, and said, "Don't be too sure about that!" (Hinting that maybe her two daughters aren't so perfect.) And that was that.

Nothing like family comments to send us into Mama Bear mode!

Fran that was awesome.

That would REALLY bother me too and I wouldn't have someone like that around my son. Just because children struggle with certain things doesn't mean that they aren't as worthwhile and precious as a perfectly healthy child. My son has many issues but to me he is nothing less than perfect.

I'm sorry. Family is hard to actually pull the plug on. It seems it has to get really bad before we stop putting up with their crap. It's easier said than done to tell him to go jump in a lake, but that is what I would do if I were in your shoes..again easier said than done!
