OT Thanksgiving IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN!!

So you guys totally got me through last year. This year our menu looks like this (but I need one more dish which is what this thread is about):

Turkey
Stuffing (reg and veg)
Gravey
Sweet Potato
Big interesting salad
Bread
Poached Salmon DIsh (for Fishetarians)

Now we usually have a sweet noodle dish but it is just not healthy. What should we replace it with?

Roast new potatoes? A light pasta dish? A rice dish? What do you think. And is this enough?

We always have home made mashed potatos and of course cranberry sauce, rolls and pies for dessert.

We always have mashed potatoes too! The roasted new potatoes sound good though.

Just a thought!
Corn dish...Thanksgiving isn't Thanksgiving without corn! Corn pudding, corn casserole or corn bread... there is a recipe in Gourmet this month that has me intrigued! Never heard of dried corn! OK...my Squanto lesson of the day!

or Squash....butternut squash soup. Our family favorite!

How about a veggie casserole dish...creamed spinach or green bean casserole?

A friend of mine was telling me about "turducken" which is a turkey stuffed with duck and chicken...I was cracking up, but slightly intrigued!

Mashed potatos are a must at our house. So is both cranberry jelly and cranberry orange sauce. Scalloped corn is a good option too.

ETA: Green bean casserole too.... we have about a hundred and ten things and all of us kids take home a boatload of leftovers. I'll get all of the leftovers this year though b/c I'm having Thanksgiving for the first time.

2-16-2009 I got a promotion, that comes with a raise. Mom and Dad are visiting and we're going to Al's for pie to celebrate.
4-27-2009 Dad surprises me with a Lady Ugly Stick (an awesome fishing rod that is pink) and a 2nd Iowa Light Artillery Battery jacket. I'm a lucky girl!
5-30-2009 Kiddo turns five. It is hard to believe he is that old already, it seems like just yesterday he was being born. I was at peace for the first time on his birthday, what a nice feeling.
6-13&14 2009 A cannon live fire in Casper WY. We got third place and I got to see Devil's Tower for the first time, it was pretty awesome.
7-4-2009 Amelia the kitten comes to live with me and Liz. Talk about jealousy, Liz will adjust though.

Storm,

I’m with the pp’s on the mashed potatoes! I mash together potatoes and parsnips, I leave one bowl plain and a second bowl is mixed with spinach and Gouda cheese. No matter how much I make, there’s never any left!

Good luck this year!

Wild Rice casserole (after all, wild rice is a truly American food) and cranberry sauce (you can glam it up by making a cranberry/cherry/orange relish and serving it in hollowed out orange peel baskets).

You guys are so funny!!!!!!!! We have some of this stuff at our meal but since it's just us cousins that are first generation born Americans this is our menu

Rice and black beans together (congris)
Yucca con mojito
Veggie meat potato green bean fricase
corn casserole (we are after all americanized lol)
Turkey
other veggie meat things
big salad with everything you can imagine on it
ETA: Bread....lotsa lotsa bread
Flan
pie
punch (my dad is king of the punch bowl)
cuban coffee
regular coffee
tea

so we try to mix American traditional with our Cuban flavor.

Storm, is it just your family that celebrates together or is it a bunch of relatives as well. What has saved our family is that the menu is done and then it's potluck style, different relatives get assigned to bring a dish.

I so need my glasses or I suffer from something because I didn't read the part where you said you needed ideas for ONE MORE dish....I'd say go with

green bean casserole
a corn casserole or corn based dish
spinich pie, I have the recipe somewhere, it's usually a smash...when we bring new things we dub traditional amreican.

Dannie i need those three recipes!!!!

Problem with mashed is that sweet potato is mashed and a big part of our Thanksgiving.

Love the idea of corn and some kind of casserole (or combo of two)
