Diaper Pail Broke

And if we replace it will be our FOURTH. Is there any way to avoid buying one? What did people do before diaper pails????

Post an ad on freecycle. There's bound to be someone looking to give one away. Check Craigslist. Or you could do what a lot of people do.

Pee dipes in the garbage (can with lid), Poop dipes straight to the outside trash.

Red face

You can buy little scented diaper sacks at the Dollar Store ($1 for 50) or WalMart. They hold the stink in pretty well.

Yep, this is what we do. 2 kids later and we've never even owned a diaper pail.

we don't use a diaper pail either. I hated mine. I just have a small trashcan by the changing table and in goes all the diapers. I empty it every night most of the time, sometimes every day and a half.

We used to have one but I put it away when we moved... now we just use the trash but looking back we should probably have kept it... the trash isn't close and it's a bit of a pain to have to take the diapers to it considering we have to go over two baby gates...

You could look on craigslist or even get a used trash can with a top...

I used a grocery bag (had to go in and put the d on use...yay! no more diapers!). I would put the stinky diaper in, twist the bag around, turn the bag inside out, then tie it. The diaper was double wrapped that way, so the smell didn't get in. I just put it in regualr trash then. It was a good way to recycle all those plastic bags I got from the grocery! Pee diapers just went in the regular trash.

We have a trash can with lid, the round type with the flap. Our house is small so diapers go right into the kitchen can which gets taken out more frequently. We've never had a problem with the smell.

I use my Simple Human trash can. That thing can hold some odors. And per daycare regulations I have to use a different trashcan than the one that is in the kitchen so I just use the one in the bathroom. It can hold the stink of poopy diapers from 6 kids. I change the trash liner every couple of days if not when you open the can the smell can knock you over. And a big plus the Simple Human liners are bio-degradeable. The best thing though is no-hands on the trash can. The really stinky one get the shopping bags and directly to the 96 gal trashcan in the garage though.

I tried the diaper pails for a while but with this many kids it was alot of work.

Never had a diaper pail with A. Pee diapers go into the trash can and I have a hook in the garage with a grocery bag on it; poop diapers go in there and then into the outside trash at the end of the day.

We kept plastic and paper grocery bags from when we go shopping. When Firefly has a stingy diaper, we throw the diaper outside tied in the bag. I highly recommend you do this because it will keep your trash can from smelling.

We don't throw away urine diapers in the house because it make the house smell. The last thing we want to smell while we're eating or cooking is a smelly diaper.

We use left over grocery bags also. I have gone through more diaper pails than I can count. Poop and pee go into a bad and we tie it. Unless they are really smelly they just get thrown in the garage until someone goes outside tp the trash can (which happens a few times a day).

We change trash every day or two at our house, so pee diapers just go in the covered kitchen trash, and poop diapers get tied in the little blue powder-scented bags and then in the trash. Smells from diapers have never been a problem...

I had a diaper genie when DD was a baby. I hated it. For baby A we just use a small trash can with a scented bag.
