Lightbulb OT - mindless girly books

Okay all - I know we had a slew of threads this summer about books to read....and y'all suggested some really good books! Here's my problem: I have TONS of books that I want to read. Excellent recommendations from here and elsewhere! BUT many of them are HEAVY!

I read a lot of non-fiction, memoirs, and I'm just finishing up The Girl Who Played with Fire. I'm going to read the new(ish) Dan Browne book too - but I need something light and quick to cleanse the palette so to speak!

The only problem is that sometimes I feel like I've read all the easy-read-chick-lit stuff!!!

SO - what's your favorite mindless book? Who's your go-to author when you just wanna escape and be purely entertained without having to think too much?? I know that we're all very well-read and read only the highest quality literature - but come on, what's your guilty pleasure book??

For guilty pleasure chick lit I really like Jennifer Weiner...I really enjoyed "Good in Bed." It is basically a witty romcom with some serious stuff thrown in for good measure but I find the style fun and breezy.

I liked the first Confessions of a Shopaholic book. The movie was WAAYYY lame, but the book was cute. The million that followed afterwards were kind of dull.

I haven't read a really good girlie book lately...After all the heavy reading I've been doing for my Lit class, I could use a little mindlessness.

I just checked the Jennifer Weiner section of the library....and I can never remember which ones I've already read!! (All of them? Most of them??) There have been instances where I've bought a book I already owned!! haha - Hence the library

Definitely read the Shopaholic books too - very cute!

Where are the new girlie book authors?????? haha

Looks like Sophie Kinsella (who wrote the shopaholic books) has a new book that came out in June.....hmmm...might have to look into that one....

I love Lisa Wingate. She also happens to be my neighbor, but her books really are good.

Here's the first book of a series.

Amazon.com: Outlander (9780385319959): Diana Gabaldon: Books

The first couple books have lots of heaving bosoms. Something I'm totally NOT into reading. Yet the book draws you in. It's beyond addictive. It's also not well written, yet I couldn't put it down. As the series continues the bosoms go away and are replaced by lots of family closeness.

Actually, it was because of the family closeness that I eventually stopped reading the series. We were ttc and things weren't looking good. It was like going to someone's baby shower. Just couldn't do it. Of course, I did eventually get pregnant then adopted. Now there just isn't time to do much reading.

All in all, I found this series pretty delicious.

I was going to suggest 'Outlander' too. After WP recommended it a few months ago, I finally got a chance to read during one of Cameron's heart caths. I've gone on to read the next few books too. I actually haven't had a series of books impact me in such a way for a long time.

So from me, Whirled_Peas for recommending Outlander. I've really enjoyed it.

Not sure if this counts, but I got a kick out of "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies." My favorite Regency romance meets zombie mayhem, what's not to love?

I just finished Quickie by James Paterson- it was pretty good & definately an easy read. Also- most of Nicholas Sparks books are pretty easy to get through. I read one awhile ago that I LOVED!!! It was called Angry Housewives eating BonBons. But I can't remember theauthor. But it was really good. Probably my favorite girly book! Also- Life in the Fast Lane (again- can't remember the author) was really cute. Julie & Julia was really good too..... hmmm. trying to think of some more- can you guys tell I'm a book worm

If the names of some others come to me I'll post again

I'm not that into the chick lit stuff persay, but a few good "easy" reads I like...

Fried Green Tomatoes by Fannie Flagg - she also has a few other books. Good southern humor!

Series of "mystery" novels with a hilarious female detective - Lt. Jack Daniels by author J.A. Konrath. All the books are named for drinks. Whiskey Sour is the first one.

Queen of Babble by Meg Cabot - has been recommended to me but haven't read it yet.

Books

I thought the books by Jen Lancaster "Bitter is the new black" and her second book "Bright lights, Big ***" were hilarious. I literally laughed out loud. Also loved Chelsea Handlers books! She is too funny. Also just read "A summer affair" by Elin Hilderbrand.

Love Jennifer Weiner too. Janet Evanovich is one of my all time faves for this kind of genre her whole series is so much fun I just finished a Mariah Stewart one in her Mercy Street series that was pretty good. I also really enjoy the Maeve Binchy books. Robert B. Parker has several series that I really like with repeating characters (Jesse Stone, Sunny Randall, Spencer, etc.). I love his writing and laugh out loud a lot when I read his books.

OK, thats it off the top of my head. I'm sure as soon as I click "submit reply" I'm going to think of more I hope that helps!
