Need help just starting to adopt in the Philippines
Hi there,
I'm new here. I'm a Fil-American also dual citizenship 43 and my husband is Caucasian 48. We lived here in the Philippines for 7years. I lost my daughter 14years old (due to illness) 4years ago. I have 2 stepsons I raised them since they were four and 9 year olds. The boys are already grown up 21 and 26. My husband and I adopted 3 dogs but still its not enough .. we are lonely for kids. So my husband and I decided to adopt and wanted a baby girl age infant to 3mo. I went to inquire at DSWD Alabang and they gave me requirements and so far I'm in process of completing the requirements. Unfortunately, all social workers are busy due to disaster Ondoy typhoon. Its kinda held back receiving a phone call from a social worker to interview me and my husband. I tried to call them but they are all out of the office. My question is.. Someday I want to take my baby back to USA and we may reside there again. Is there anyone have similar or success experience on taking your adopted baby to America? I'm currently applying as Domestic Adoption. Do I also have to go thru ICAB? Do they require you to do some psychological testing and physical health test? When do they require this things? I'm sorry I have to much questions. Please tell me your experiences or tips so I can make this smooth adoption process less painfull. I will really appreciate it. cristy43 |

First of all, congratulations on starting the process.
I'm guessing, (and I could be wrong) that once you complete the adoption, you would then go through US Homeland Security's Immigration procedures to petition a dependent child. I'm pretty sure that you will have to work with a US lawyer at some point. You are adopting domestically as a citizen of the Philippines, and since I don't think the US government recognizes your dual citizenship, it could get complicated.

There is a Yahoo group all about adopting from the Philippines that you might want to join. It is made up of people who either have adopted from the Philippines or who are in the process of adopting from there. They might have more answers to your questions than this forum for all adoptive parents. Here's a link to the group:
adopt-philippines-usa : adopt-philippines-usa You'll have to join the group and wait for approval, but then you can ask your questions over there and will probably get better answers. Best of luck on your journey!

Thank you
Thank you so much for all your replies. I will check on citizenship and perhaps I will call the embassy myself and inquire regarding this matter. You maybe right. I forgot about US not recognizing dual citizenship. I may need to re-adopt when I reside back to America.
thanks Cristy |
