OT - Question about Washingto DC

Hey guys we're planning to take a day trip to D.C. tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone from the area or knows the area could recommend any good spots for lunch? Something kinda nice where we can sit outside and enjoy the day.

Hi!
Where will you be in DC? Like what neighborhoods? Down by the museums and monuments?

What area will you be in? I grew up in DC and haven't lived there for years, but maybe I can still recommend? If you are going to the mall -- where the museums are -- I recommend packing a lunch and eating picnic-style outside. Or you could take the metro to either Woodley Parl or Cleveland Park and walk to the zoo. From Woodley there are lot of places along the way.

have fun! I really miss DC.

Hey guys... I really dont know where I will be. I was just thinking about doing the whole tourist thing. I havent been to D.C. since 8th grade and I just wanted to take DS and walk around.

I was just hoping to find a cool restaurant somewhere but I have no idea about neighborhoods

There aren't a lot of restaurants right down by the mall. Your best bet is to do what Yehudit says and get something on the way to the mall and do a picnic. Or do the touristy stuff and then cab it or metro to one of the places on the list. I wanted to add more but have to run for now.

Dupont Circle is also a fun place to walk and eat, but not eal close to the touristy stuff, though there are a few art museums nearby.

I have been to the Tabard Inn (years ago) and loved it. I haven't been to any of the other places.

I think of it as a nice place to sit on a cozy sofa by the fire in winter but they have a nice garden area.

Old Ebbitt Grill

Also, I love two of the restaurants that Magic posted: Lauriol Plaza and Zaytinya!

I lived near DC a long time ago, and haven't been there in ages. Such a fun trip! I remember that my favorite area was Adams Morgan....it was kind of the "funky" area back in the day, but someone can correct me if I am wrong now. There was a great bar there...the upstairs was called Heaven and the downstairs was called Hell (not that I ever frequented it...!).

Have a blast!! Walking the mall is just amazing....to soak it all in....

I agree that there not much to eat around the mall except hot dogs and pretzels from the street vendors. Adams Morgan is great, Karen, but from my experience, it's not that child-friendly. More for the hippy college crowd. Dupont Circle is similar, but I like it better; more spacious, and more fabulous LOL! Try Chinatown too...there are several types of restaurants there, and it's always hopping.

If you're going to do the mall, be prepared to WALK - and bring a stroller for DS. When friends come to town, we usually do The Capitol, the National Monument, the WWII monument, then the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, and maybe the Korean War memorial. If we have energy, we go down by the Tidal Basin and check out the Jefferson Memorial. It will be nice to take a packed lunch and eat by the Reflecting Pool as well. Also, you may be surprised at how small the White House looks is lol!

Magic Hat - So we ended up trying out Hank's Oyster Bar! It was really cool and awesome outdoor seating. We also ended up taking our chocolate lab (don't ask) and it worked out fine!! Good food and AWESOME Bloody Mary's !!!

Thank you for the suggestions it was a total lifesaver

ETA- OHMIGAWD... Fadzi the walking!!!! It was sooo hot and I was exhausted. Thanks for reminding me to bring the stroller or else wouldnt have seen anything because by the time I got from from the Capital to the White House I was ready to go!!!
