AMOMS" (weight loss) Adoptive Mom's On a Mission

Ok we have tried to keep this thread going twice. I am starting it over with a little explaination in the title to get anyone interest involved.
So a dear friend of mine died today of a heart attack he was 41 and over weight (but had lost 80 pounds). You know it use to be the "old" people that died of heart attacks, now i bet everyone can think of someone in the middle age group that has had a heart attack.
SO I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SOME COMPANY CHNAING MY EATING HABITS. Actually I have gained since our last stab at this a couple of months ago, however I now have about a 7 pound weight loss (only 70 more to go) In just the past week NO CARBS. YUCK. but I wanted to see quick results and I have, so has my 20 year old. I am going to fix my signature for a new goal and I WILL DO THIS.
JOIN ME. Let's do it for our kids.

Heart

I'm sorry to hear about your friend.

I've had a pretty succesful summer. I've lost about 13 pounds, slowly but surely. I still want to lose about 20 pounds more and would like to get there this fall.

Suz has been doing awesome! Hopefully she'll see this thread and chime in too.

I'll join you! My hospital (I'm a nurse) just started a 10 week team weight loss program, the STRIP (Spare tire reduction incentive program), and I am a team captain. We have started refering to our program as Operation Deflation ( I think it sounds catchier the STRIP) I have no specific diet plan, just to substitute healthy foods for unhealthy ones, eat smaller portions with healthy snacks between meals, and work out at least 3 times a week. I'm also using the Livestrong website to calculate my daily intake. I just started week one this week and it seems to be going well so far. Good luck to anyone else trying to lose weight! I'm right there with you.

I will join in in hopes of helping keep the thread going. I am a lifetime weight watcher. I have lost 40 lbs in about a year and although I reached goal(set as high as possible), I still want to lose at least 10 more lbs(could stand to lose 25) to be in a comfort zone and not worry about going over and having to pay. I have been stuck for the last 6 months and I'm ready to start moving again.

In addition to knowing approximate point values of what I eat I also find I do best on lean meat, lots of veggies and fruit, and little bread(all whole grain and high fiber). I really don't care for exercise but try to get in activity and I exercise when I feel I have to.

Hi Ladies- I'm in, but not really "dieting" I'm really trying to just change my eating habits. Portion Control is the huge one for me. I started with it seriously about a month ago, and I'm down 5 pounds. I'd like to lose about 20 more and then I think I could manage some exercise. Right now it seems like I'm too heavy to do much in the way of exercise without flaring up my arthritis. My cholesterol and blood pressure are up slightly too.

So, I'm in...

Started, thanks for starting again. I was doing "OK," especially with the exercise, but six weeks ago, my Dad landed in the hospital and he is still there...and every bad eating habit I ever had has reared its ugly head. I am such an emotional eater.

The only good news is that I have kept exercising to maintain my sanity...unfortunately seven of the 25 lbs i lost have crept back on. My goal is to get rid of those by labor day and then go from there....

I am so very sorry to hear about your friend. That's tragic (and as someone about to turn 41, it's YOUNG!).

Count me in. I have been so swamped this summer with work and had to have gall bladder surgery. Now that I am feeling better I have been trying to eat better. Now to stick to it. I have a reunion in less than 2 months and hope to get at least 10 off by then.

COUNT ME IN!

I have had weight issues my whole life. I have been on meds this year that have made me balloon my weight. I would love the support of this board!

I want to come back too!! Thanks for restarting the thread. The 7 pounds I lost is back I think, judging by the fact that my clothes are too tight again!!!!
Loveajax, sorry about your Dad!
Get me back on track!!

I need in too. I just realized I am almost fat enough for the gastric band. Not good! I have been dieting all week and am down about 4 pounds. My goal is to weigh less than my husband. Which means I need to lose about 35 pounds. My short term goal is for my wedding ring to fit by my birthday (about 1 month from now). My 20 year reunion is coming up next year and I can't show up as a fat person.

I am in! Lost 20 lbs. two years ago with Weight Watchers but gained 17 back in the last year after DD #2 arrived. She barely slept her first eight months of life...awake every hour, colicky, no naps!! We were all so exhausted and I had to return to work after being home for 2 years. All of this led to too much take out, late night eating, stress eating and hello, 17 lbs!! I am going back to WW on Sunday with the hopes of losing 25 lbs. and would love the support of everyone here as well! Good luck everyone!

I wish I would've seen this thread before I finished this bag of chips

COUNT ME IN!! I'm a looooong time lurker and I feel like I know most of you from reading your postes over the years. Everyone is so supportive - what better way to support each than for our health!! We have waited so long to be parents why cut it short due to unhealthy eating habits.

I would love to lose at least 10 pounds but 15 would be great. I too hate exercising so this should be nteresting!!

Well, I joined the AMOMs in the morning and completed my first workout! I don't do a lot, just 30 minutes on an elliptical with 15 minutes of walking before and after, but it's a start. Unfortunately, as soon as I was done I came home and ate a big lunch. It was mostly healthy stuff, but it makes my workout feel counter productive.
