OT: Does Anyone Watch Mad Men?

****Sorry, possible "spoilers" here if you aren't caught up!

So I totally got sucked into Mad Men on AMC...I just finished watching Season Two. The show is set in the early 1960s and of course (! it seems I can never escape these themes in anything I watch or read) it covers infertilty, adoption and the story of a woman who gives birth....

And that's my question. Where is Peggy's baby? I thought the baby was being raised by Peggy's sister (but that the baby was not adopted)....I base this on a couple of things that happened (sis says, "aren't you going to see him?" priest gives the egg "for the little one."). But when Peggy is telling Pete she makes it sound like the baby was adopted? I'm confused...(maybe I am supposed to be and it's not clear?!). I tried to look on some Mad Men blogs (just what I need....more internet distractions), but it didn't clear it up for me.

Tmom, I know you are a Mad Men fan...any answers? arrggh!!

Haha, I AM a fan!

According to an article in the Chicago Tribune Peggy's sister is NOT raising her child (this is according to the shows creator Matthew Weiner).

And here's a direct part of the interview:
Quote:
We started out talking about Peggy, and in my discussion of Peggy’s story line in the finale, I referred to an episode early in Season 2, in which Peggy visits her sister. In that finale discussion, as Weiner pointed out, I got a line of dialogue wrong (I’ve corrected the blog post in question).

I wrote that Peggy’s sister asked if Peggy wanted to “say goodnight to him,” and wrote that that was “a bit of misdirection,” a clue meant to indicate that the youngest child in the sister’s household could be Peggy’s own son. Weiner pointed out that all the sister asked was if Peggy wanted to “say goodnight” – no mention of “him.”

However Weiner also talked about inserting indications in that episode and others that were meant to lead fans to wonder if Peggy’s sister might be raising the boy.

“I mislead the audience all over the place, and that’s the fun of the show. I give out little bits of information at a time and then play on that,” he said.

But was he clear about the fact that Peggy’s sister is not raising Peggy’s son. He said the child was given up for adoption.

Does that help any?

I can sleep tonight (haha!). Thank you soooo much! I'm glad the guy admitted to the "misdirection!"

Do you think Don knows what happened (that scene with him in the hospital was a little "cryptic"). I can't wait for Season Three!

Big Love should be my next "project"...but I think there are too many seasons to catch up on (like Dexter...I always wanted to watch that too!). I saw a sneak peak of Episode One of Season Three of MM (in both Us and Star Magazine...my quality reading!) and it looks like it's going to be pretty juicy!

The funny thing about Mad Men is that everyone is always "nostalgic" for the "good old days," and you watch this and remember there were many "bad" things about the "old days!"

YES!

Big Love is worth it!! (And starts back up in January - you've got time!!! haha)

I've got so many shows in my Netflix Queue that I want to watch - and Dexter is right there! (So's Weeds...)

Did you see the episode when the neighbor grabbed one of the Draper kids by the arm, and slapped him in the face for running in the house!?

If that happened today...omg!

Brooklyn, OMG!!! When I grew up, it was definitely, "it takes a village" and parents would definitely verbally discipline other people's kids (no problemo!). But I can't remember ever being smacked by another parent!

Tmom, I thought you might be crushing on Pete....hahahha....ewwwww...I must say though he is a great actor because he makes Pete so unlikeable!

I feel so sad for Sal and Kitty. My aunt and uncle were definitely both gay and married to each other...it was really weird now that I think about it! But it somehow "worked" for them (though it is sad that they both could not be open)...not sure it's working for Sal and Kitty!

Agree re: Sal and Kitty. Very sad.

Do you like/hate Pete Campbell? Thought this little article was great:

Hi to all fellow Basket Cases

I'm MAD about Mad Men....can I join in? It's SO brilliant, I just can't wait for the Season Premiere!

The thing I'm most interested in seeing played out this season is how Peggy and Pete relate to each other now that the secret has been revealed. I mean, how do they work together knowing what happened? It was one thing for Peggy to walk around in denial, but now that Pete knows....

And speaking of "the good old days" theory, what about when Sally was running around with the dry cleaning bag over her head (er, entire body!) and Betty scolded her saying, "If my dry cleaning is on the floor, you're in big trouble young lady"!

I could go on and on. Maybe I will, if this thread keeps moving. I'm going to steal a moniker for us Mad Men groupies from the following blog

Basket of Kisses | The fansite of AMC’s Mad Men. Season 3 premiere August 16.

and call us "Basket Cases", based Peggy's "Here's your basket of kisses" comment in Season One.

And any Jon Hamm admirers might want to go there right now...if you like your Hamm unkempt and unshaven, that is (the Anti-Don).

OK, I am not reading this thread yet (don't want to know the spoilers,) but I had to post because I just started watching Mad Men on Netflix. A friend told me about it, and I love it. I know that it Season 3 starts on Sunday, so I am frantically trying to finish up before it starts.

Will read the thread when I am done with Season 2
