Glass Bottles
My mom used them with me when I was little and noticed that they seem to be making a comeback. I am finding them everywhere!
I bought a few the other day bc I found a good deal on them. Has anyone used them and have any pro's or con's?! Thanks!

My one suggestion would be to get some of the silicone type covers for them. That helps to decrease the chance of breakage if they are dropped.
Personally, I use the BPA free plastic Born Free bottles.

The BPA-free ones were much more expensive so we used glass and liked them pretty well.

I also use the plastic Born Free bottles. Someone got me a set of the glass Born Free bottles but I actually never opened them. I have a few friends that only use glass and from what they say the glass hold up better than the plastic. I have never had a problem with warping or melting in the dishwasher myself....but I guess it does happen. You wouldn't have to worry about that with glass! My friend has lots of cute covers for her glass bottles and it does help with reducing breaking. Her daughter constantly throws her bottles on the floor and she hasn't broken on yet!

We used the Evenflo glass bottles and LOVED them. Only one broke and that was because I forgot it was in the trunk of my car - it was in the middle of winter so it froze, thawed, re-froze over and over again and got banged around in there constantly. I don't think you need any covers to be honest. They are great. If you want the milk cold, it stays colder MUCH longer than it will in a plastic bottle. Same goes for if you warm up the milk a little bit. We just pulled them out of our attic today for baby #2. The glass bottles and my cloth diapers are my 2 favorite baby items. Love 'em. BTW, we use the BumGenius cloth diaps and love, love, LOVE those!

We also used the Evenflo classic glass bottle. We never broke one. The only downside that I could see is that they are heavier than plastic. But in addition to being BPA free (you can now get BPA free plastic too), they are completely recyclable so there is no need for them to sit in a landfill forever when their life is over.
I also really loved the classic old school baby bottle look. |

Love love love the glass bottles.
We got Dr. Brown's because my cousin really liked them & recommended them, but if we could go back & do it over we'd get the Evenflo ones because they're cheaper (and J has never really had any gas issues, so all the $$ for the bells & whistles was a bit of a waste). We also got a few BPA-free plastic ones for travelling/days out/etc. because we figured we're more likely to break one out at the park or something than we are at home. We've only broken one - it slipped out of George's hand when he was washing up & broke in the sink. I was surprised by how "durable" they are.

We're using borne free glass with the silicone covers. I'm not worried so much about breaking them in the beginning. The reason I like them is that my dishwasher does have a sterilization feature and I know those plastic bottles will not dry properly. Plus I just think that over time plastic deterioates

Susan, I also was really excited about glass bottles this time around! We were lent a ton of bpa free plastic bottles (most never used) from my sil, though. I guess I don't have a good excuse to spend more money.
![]() Check out the siliskin covers on amazon. They have good reviews!

DD never accepted a bottle and DS came home at 18 mos, so our experience is a bit different. But we used the Gerber glass bottles for him from 18 mos to about age 2 when he weaned off of them. He had been using Evenflo/Gerber plastic in Guatemala so it was consistent with his past but an upgrade of sorts.
He only took bottles 3-4 times a day at 18 mos (pre-breakfast snuggles somedays, also naptime and bedtime) and it was always in our arms in a rocking chair and he never had the bottle to himself so he couldn't throw it or drop it. The grownups, however, did drop them occasionally and they were very durable. The glass is very thick so I think it would take a pretty hefty impact or hitting just the right spot (perhaps the neck edge if there weren't a nipple & ring on it?) to make it chip. And we did cloth diapers! We did g-diapers with cloth inserts but we can also put the disposable inserts in there when we're out and about or have a babysitter. I highly recommend it. (G-diapers now sells g-cloth inserts but we just used some old gerber pre-folds as inserts and some microfiber shop towels.) DS was in them from 18 mos until 2.5 when he potty trained. We never bought/used a regular disposable for him and only used about 10 disposable inserts EXCEPT for the weeklong trip to Toronto when we used them exclusively and went through about 20. It was a great system and one we'll definitely use if we're blessed with kid #3+.

For adoption #2 I will probably do glass bottles too. With all the issues with plastic, glass bottles with covers will become "retro" chic...

We used glass bottles with one of our kids. Our son was sent home from the hospital with glass bottles. Why? Not sure but it might have something to do with all his allergies and horrible acid reflux. We gradually stopped using the bottles as his needs out grew them. The downside of the bottles was the nipples. The nipples did not last long.
