milk of magnesia and zinc oxide?

Poor Kee has had some issues.... the soy formula just caused diarrhea and resulted in a nasty looking bottom.. dh put on neo and it's looking better. Zinc oxide hasn't really done much and I was disappointed. (I use the stronger concentration.) Somebody told me about mixing zinc oxide and milk of mag 1:1 and applying that. Have you ever used this combination?

Yes i have heard of this- from many of the local older women in the area (mostly granny type)! It works (from what I've been told) especially well with diaper rash from bouts of diarrea (sp?) as if an acidic stomach.

Jaelyn has never had diaper rash (TG!) but she does get a heat rash in between her fat rolls- I use Aveeno Intensive Releif Overnight, let dry in tthen use corn starch base baby powder... It works like a charm the next morning all is clear with no heat rash or redness..

Well I was pretty smug because neither of my babies had ever had a diaper rash... now it happened!

I used Sudacream (sp?). You can buy it at Wal-mart in the baby section. It's a grey jar, and it works wonders.

Also you could use Barrierre cream (I get it in a tube) over whatever you choose. When the baby pees/poops, the cream acts as a barrier between the diaper and bum.

I'm so sorry, I can just imagine how miserable and frustrating this must be for him and for you guys!

SN: For many years there were NO DR's in our immediate area so the older people pretty much treated anything and everything themselves. Of course this was 50 years ago but sometimes the old remedies work as well if not better at times than the new ones... Also, my mom would suggest swmming (soaking) in the salt water-she thinks it cures everything from cuts to sore throats... I guess we would have all died had it not been for us living near the gulf, lol!

Triple Paste is amazing. I was stunned at how well (and quickly) it worked for our DD. It's a bit pricey, though.

Nate had horrible diarrhea when he was tiny from the liquid soy formula (switching to the powder only made him constipated, so we had to give him some of both!). We tried just about everything, and finally ended up getting the Triple Paste, and it cleared up faster then I could believe! I seriously could see an improvement with every diaper change!

I buy the big tub, and keep it around just in case! If he shows the tiniest bit of redness, I slather it on and he hasn't had any kind of "rash" since he was 5 weeks old! Love that stuff!

MoM is actually used on bedsores in the nursing home. It healps heal skin breakdown. I would use triplepaste or Buttpaste. I hope it goes away just as quick as it came.

Our youngest baby had diaper rash when we brought her home. My sister (who's also recently adopted another baby) was given a great recipe by her pediatrician and I've gotta say, it works VERY quickly! Cheap to mix yourself; we found it worked very well with the first application and was completely gone by the second or third.

Diaper Rash Creme:

Quote:
Equal amounts of:

Aqua-phor ointment
Gold Bond Cream
Desitin ointment (or Desitin type substitute)

While I realize Aqua-phor and Gold Bond are expensive......you can purchase the travel size from Walmart and the Wal-mart Brand of Desitin (or any other brand of same) can be substituted too.

Just apply this after bath and diaper change. The results were amazing to us.

Hope this might help....

Sincerely,

Linny

Yes! In the nursing homes I've worked in, we would use Mylanta and corn starch and mix them together into a paste. It does work well!

With Bradley, I used baby medicated Gold Bond powder; it worked way better than Desitin! Good luck!

Blessings, Michelle
