Quarterly update from Agency

So i got our quarterly update from our agency today and they have been SUPER slow these last few months. They only had 4 PBM's view profiles and none of them were anything we were open to, so we havent been shown in like 4 months at least. i know we were shown at least once, but it's been 7 months now!!! My SW did say that they had 3 hospital placements, and with our agency if they have hospital placements the longest waiting family gets chosen. well, we arent close to being the longest waiting family. She did say that their Birthmother counselors are talking with quite a few potential birthmothers right now, so maybe something will come of those situations. They usually place 30 babies a year, and they are at 16 right now. They were really busy in the beginning of the year and now nothing. They also had 2 pbms looking at profiles and then never hearing back from them again. We dont get any type of heads up or update except quarterly until we get "the call" so i feel like i'm in the dark all the time as to what's going on. it really stinks!!! I'm just curious to see if other people have heard of their agencies slowing down right now too. Thanks, Rach

Our agency update is very similar. They were busy at the beginning of the year with both moms making adoption plans and moms seeking parenting help. Early April the calls just stopped. They aren't sure what to think. With the economy tanking everywhere, they expected the calls for parenting help to increase.

Same story with our agency. Our social worker told us recently that they've only done four placements so far this year (which is way down from past years). I don't know if they're necessarily working with fewer expectant mothers, but she did say that they are seeing more and more young mothers deciding to parent.

We've been waiting for a match for three years, and it doesn't seem like we're any closer now than we were when we started. It's very frustrating.

Our referral agency said that all the agencies they work with haven't had anything going on since we were chosen in May. That is so surprising for our agency. With our situation looking like it might not happen, we are nervous our wait will be a long time.

I am surprised by this.

Wishing you all baby dust!

Yeah, we have heard this as well....of course, three months ago (before we signed on again) they were having problems having enough aparents (had three situations without aparents). Just our luck!

Our facilitator said that it has been slow right now, but that it can change in a matter of seconds....

Of course, we have only been waiting for about three weeks, so the frustration with the wait hasn't kicked in yet...but who knows how I will feel in a few months!

I was gonna throw in that our agency has been the same. For the past 7 months or so they have been super slow. (That's just for caucasian infants b/c our SW had said if we were open to AA children they could get us placed in 30 days! I couldn't believe that! Such a need for PAP's to take them in. But where we live it would be very difficult on an AA child and we wouldn't want to put them in that type of situation).

Then a woman on another adoption forum told me an agency in my state that she was going to go through sent out a newsletter stating they are looking to work with other agencies because they have more PBM's coming in than PAP's lol. She's supposed to PM me the info. I was like, a place like that exisits?! LOL

10-09 : HS STILL not approved. After 13 months - agency now says we may not "appeal" to their clients because we are lower income on their scales.
11-09 : Decided our best option will be private adoption. Back to square one after all this wasted time

3 years???? Are you serious???? OMGosh, and i'm complaining about waiting 7 months so far. Has your social worker gave you a clue to why you are waiting so long? maybe you need to find a different agency or work with more than one?? I really hope you get chosen soon. i'll be praying for you. Rach

WOW, its so amazing to me that some places are LOOKING for PAP's and other places have so many they need to wait to get in the "program" i really dont get how that happens?? on the other hand i dont understand the whole facilitator, attorneys, and that whole deal. I dont know, here in Wisconsin i think there are like 3 adoption agencies and i dont even know if there are the other kinds or not. Our agency only has like 30 people in the program at once. once someone else gets' picked then they allow more people in. so realisticly everyone should get picked within a year, (usually place 30 babies a year) but that doesnt happen that way usually. i am just trying to stay busy but i am getting so obsessed and its so discouraging when i get an update that says they havent really had oppurtunities for us. our SW did say in a seperate email that she thought there would be some "good" oppurtunities coming up she thought, but she also said that in March when i talked to her. No one knows but god and i just wish he would just tell me when its going to happen!!!!!!! LOL Seriously!!!!!

Funny ... there are three of us from Wisconsin on this thread.

RD -- I sent you a pm, but wanted to add some info. In Wisconsin, all adoptions need to go through an agency. Facilitators and lawyers cannot match emoms and aparents like they can in other states. You can do an independant match like in other states, but an agency has to be involved for bmom counseling and to take custody of the baby while you wait for finalization (6 months minimum). And, there are more than three agencies here .... let me know if you want links, I have looked at them all.

We're trying to adopt a CC infant with little or no drug/alcohol exposure. That apparently is a rare or nonexistent situation. We might as well be trying to adopt a unicorn. But thank you for keeping us in your prayers; we'll do the same for you (and everyone else who's still waiting).

That is funny! You know, my agency is kind of like a referral agency. They work with about 12 other agencies (mostly in the south) for matches. If you are open to race, they typically match very, very fast. Even with them working with all these other agencies, it's been slow.
