Question regarding Facilitators

My DH and I are just starting our adoption journey. I am really interested in using a facilitator the problem is I can't really figure out if it legal in our state. We are in Missouri and it just seems so unclear to me. If it is not legal here but the birthmom is in another state does that make it ok? Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I don't know the answer, but you might try calling an adoption attorney and ask them.

Good luck and welcome to the forums.

Don't know if this will help....but, in TX facilitators are not legal (meaning one cannot act as a facilitator in the state); however, using a facilitator in another state is perfectly legal (assumming being a facilitator is legal in the certain state) as long as you have a lawyer in your state to make sure everything is done correctly, legal, and to finalize in your home state. I know CA is one of the only states where it is legal to act as a facilitator.

We completed an adoption using a facilitator in CA; we also had a lawyer in CA and in TX to make sure everything was done correctly.

Hope this helps....
