OT- MTV's "Sixteen and Pregnant"
I've been watching this program since it began a few weeks ago, and wondered if there are any other viewers out there? If so, what do you think of the programming?

I watched for the first time last night. I think every teen should have to watch this!! I thought it did a good job of showing the reality of the choices these kids have made. It made my heart go out to them!

I've only seen it once, but both my husband and I thought it was realistic and a lesson learned. I'd have to watch more to give any more concrete opinion.

I saw it for the first time last night. It seemed very realistic and tragic. These poor babies don't realize they've ended their childhoods forever.

i love this show...it does give teens the real deal of what happens when they have children at a young age. i love that it doesn't glorify teen pregnancy but shows the struggles of how they have to grow up quickly

My wife and I have been watching it since the first episode. Some of the stuff they do makes me fear for the safety of the children. For example one of the Teen's left the baby on the dining room table unattended and went to the kitchen to get something. I was so fearful that the baby might roll off or something. It didnt happen but simple stuff liek that can be really dangerous. It also makes me worry about my teens because they have so far shown, strict parents, laid back parents, religious parent and so on yet no matter what the parents values their child is a teen parent.

My only issue with the show is that so far each teen has decided to parent and just like the poster said some put the babies on tables, leave them alone etc, yell at them. I worry. Would love to see them show a teen place for adoption. But that might be to much to ask. Also these teens get paid by MTV. But some of the teens realize life is over and do the best for the baby.

mommieof2cuties- After the first episode they showed a little preview as to what the season had in store and there was at least one girl contemplating placing her child.

I was flipping through the channels last night and caught the end of an episode with a smart young woman with an uninvolved boyfriend. They were arguing and both remained calm but he basically told her he was only with her because of the baby. She was crying. It was heartbreaking. I don't think I'll watch again because basically it is just a sad situation although the girl clearly loved her child and had the potential to be a great mom.
I can't say whether any of these young woman should consider placing or not...I sure many fo them will make good moms. But there is no question that most of them will not have good relationships with the dads just because most teenage boys are completely unprepared for fatherhood and long term repsonsiblity. I would agree that it is great show for teens to watch--it doesn't glamorize or condemn...it merely shines a light on the issue. |

I will have to set my DVR to record it; sounds like something I'd watch, although my heart would probably break for some of the babies! It's on regular MTV?
Blessings, Michelle

I don't watch TV--it's all Noggin all the time around here. But, my middle school students do.
They've been watching the show. And coming in wide-eyed and nervous looking. They've been impressed with how much life changes for the girls. They perceive it, overall, as very sad. That really makes me happy, actually. We have a number of young folks in our middle school who are sexually active. And a number who have had a scare this year. I don't fool myself into believing that this show, or the Virginity Rules program we run, will stop them from having sex. I do hope, however, that they will make informed choices about birth control. Some of these kids will make wonderful parents--when they are adults. If this show, or any other program out there, can help them make good, informed, intelligent decisions, wonderful. |

I watched one episode when I was away, sitting in a hotel room. I thought it had a good message (for once, coming from MTV)....that it's not easy and there are many adult decisions to deal with at such an early age. I'd like to watch more episodes...

Dr. Phil show today
Okay, same topic but different show....did anyone watch the Dr. Phil show today?? I was watching while in the gym running on the treadmill, but had to leave to attend a meeting at 4, so I missed the last few minutes.
The show was about a 15 year old girl who was pregnant and didn't know what to do. Her parents wanted her to terminate the pregnancy, and the efather and his family wanted her to make an adoption plan. She spoke with fellow teens who had terminated, made an adoption plan, and parented. She had a "robot baby" for a day, and was at the hospital with a prospective aparent while she waited for that baby to be born. All this was arranged by Dr. Phil to help the teen understand the gravity of the situation. I was hoping to find out what happened with the baby (the emom was having second thoughts), and what the 15 year old's final decision was. Did anyone watch it? With my luck, we'll probably find out next week. That means I'll have to hit the treadmill again lol!
