OT: Crib Recall

400,000 cribs recalled after 8-month-old dies - Kids and parenting- msnbc.com

We don't have a drop-down crib for this reason. Sad story.

We did purchase a drop-down crib. This makes me nervous! But we're not planning to use the drop-down anyway, so maybe the mechanism won't get worn out. My DH is very handy - I bet he could modify the crib to secure the side instead of making it a drop-down.

just checked and my crib isn't part of the recall, thank goodness. We don't use the drop side anyway, it's a pain.

Ugh, our crib is recalled. And the drop down side helped me~I'm only 5 feet tall.

I am pretty sure with recalls you don't need a receipt...you just might not get as much as you paid for it. I've found that companies that are handling recalls are very fair with pricing though. Babies R us instituted their own "recall" on BPA bottles and I had tons and tons of bottle that I had bought used on e-bay, and then just boiled and bought new nipples. I told them I didn't really care what I got for them, cause I didn't buy them new, and they still gave me full price on all of them. We ended up with over $100 store credit for bottles that we might have paid about $10 for! I have bottles coming out my ears. So if Babies R Us sells the crib you have, I would suggest going there Call before you go and see if they have more information!

Good Luck. I need to get out to the garage and see if our spare crib is one of the recalls, but I can't get to it! I know Ty's crib isn't.

As a side note, I've heard they are going to make all drop down sides illegal...has anyone heard more about that?

There are some cribs like mine that are not drop-sides and Im 5' 2.5" and it comes up to my belly button. Might want to consider that. Baby Italia is the company.

We have a drop down by Bellini but I really only use it when I'm changing sheets. Is Simplicity the only brand being recalled?

Our crib was part of the recall and I returned it to Target this morning. I didn't need a receipt or credit card. They looked at the model # on the crib and gave me store credit for the full amount, even though the crib was 3 years old.

Is there anywhere with pictures of the cribs recalled? Then I don't have to dig out the spare crib...though I'm kinda hoping it's recalled honestly

As a side note, we went to Ikea today, and I love the simpleness of their cribs, and the sides are low. By the time the mattress is on the lowest setting (or it's made into the toddler bed) the mattress is only a few inches off the ground. DH didn't like them though. I think he wants to buy a crib that matches Ty for the new baby, especially if we decide to put them in the same room (which we will if we get a boy)

aclee....this link has a picture of the crib. We no longer had the drawer thing that goes under the crib....I never used it because I put baskets under the crib instead. The folks at Target didn't even ask about it, they just wanted to see the model # on the crib.
