My parents have a little summer cottage that I spent every summer at. It's literally in a place like "Mayberry" and they have awesome fireworks/bonfires. I love bringing DD there now so it is part of her "traditions" too.

Anyway, we were about to head out there tomorrow and I just found out my Dad is back in the hospital...he's been sick for a really long time, and I am so scared. (Wow...that's a downer, sorry!).

Hope everyone has a fun 4th!

Oh that sounds divine!!! I love the "small town" celebrations the best and really miss those from my childhood!!

I'm sorry about your dad and hope he is able to join you for the 4th of July fun! ((HUGS))

Now...I really AM curious to know...what firework is your favorite to light up? Please don't tell me you are a sparkle girl? Nothing wrong with sparklers, just not what I picture you with. LOL!

1. My plans for the 4th are...
Having a BBQ at my house with family and friends. The kids swimming and the adults visiting. Some may play horse shoes, swim, all the above, LOL!

2. My favorite memory from a 4th of July celebration is..
Seeing all my relatives. As kids, we always had a big family reunion on the 4th. Not sure why that stopped, but I miss it.

3. The best thing to eat for 4th of July is...
Anything off the Grill.

4. My favorite firework to see or light is...
Anything that goes really high with lots of different colors.

5. When I think of 4th of July and what it symbolizes for me, I think of...
Freedom, family and fun!

ETA:
loveajax, I hope your dad feels better soon.

1. My plans for the 4th are...

Watching the first stage of the Tour de France, watching J "work" a couple of local parades, trying to decide where we will try to get a glimpse of fireworks.

2. My favorite memory from a 4th of July celebration is...

watching fireworks on the beach in SD every July 4 growing up. SD does this great thing where they coordinate fireworks shows at different points down the coast (Mission Bay, SD Bay, et al.) and synchronize them all to a patriotic music broadcast on a local station. We would always have pre-parked a car early in the morning and then would walk down for the fireworks and listen to the music on the car radio while sitting in beach chairs snuggling under blankets, and then drive the car home. Makes me happy to think about.

3. The best thing to eat for 4th of July is...

Rhubard Pie made from my grandmother's Point Loma backyard garden.

4. My favorite firework to see or light is...

Fireworks have always been illegal in SD and most of OC, so can't really say.

5. When I think of 4th of July and what it symbolizes for me, I think of...

Oh gosh, at the risk of sounding cliche...just being proud and feeling blessed to be an American.

We will be swimming and cooking out at a friend's house on saturday. Then, of course, watching fireworks at night.

My favorite memory of the 4th is being up at my parents' house on Lake Chatauqua in NY. We'd watch the fireworks from my dad's boat on the lake and be surrounded by what was called "the ring of fire". At 8:30 or 9:00 there would be a countdown on the radio and all of the houses on the lake would light red flares along their property line....it was really awesome to look around and see. Then we'd watch all of the fireworks shows being put on around the lake and listen to songs like "God Bless The USA" on my dad's radio.

The best food to eat is DEFINITELY anthing off of the grill!

Anything that makes a loud boom!

The fourth of July reminds me just how lucky I am to have been born in such a great country. I am so proud to be an American on this day (as I am everyday), but on this day I feel it a little more!

1. My plans for the 4th are...
Brandy is coming up with her family and now I have to pull out the winter blankets b/c it's "ONLY" going to be 75 and thus too cold for her. LOL! BBQ and fireworks with some other friends invited too. Should be a blast!

2. My favorite memory from a 4th of July celebration is..
Going to SD (South Dakota, not San D as zxczxc posted above.)every year as a child to spend it with my mom's family. Small town, parade with the dressed up bikes (remember those??), food, bomb pops, rodeo...

3. The best thing to eat for 4th of July is...
Watermelon off the rind and spitting the seeds out with the juice dripping everywhere

4. My favorite firework to see or light is...
I love the big ones in the sky with all the colors too. I get choked up sometimes b/c that's so symbolic for me and I think of the origins of our country and how great it really is to live here.

To light off...I'm a pop bottle rocket girl and miss those days. (not legal here in CO)

5. When I think of 4th of July and what it symbolizes for me, I think of...

Crick- the bike decorating reminded me...there are canals that go off from the lake and every year the canal by my parents' house would have paddle boat races on the 4th. Everyone would decorate their paddle boat in all red, white and blue and then race down the canal, out to the lake and then back into the canal.

That is definitely one of my favs! It was hilarious to watch...and participate in some years!

When I was a kid we'd decorate our bikes and our dog in red white and blue and ride our bikes downtown to watch the parade. Then we'd have a backyard bar-b-que and make homemade strawberry ice cream! The best!!!

Then my stomach would start to churn thinking about the fireworks. I usually hid in the back of the car with a blanket over my head. I think today I would have been diagnosed with sensory integration issues. The loud noises terrified me and to make it worse the other kids would make fun of me. So please be kind if you have a kid like me! Today, I love fireworks as long as they are not in my yard...still can't stand being close when they are set off.

Kind of a "Friday but it's Thursday Five"

1. My plans for the 4th are...
Celebrating my Dad's birthday!!!!!!! Going to Church, going out to eat, walking by the beach, going home before it's crazy.

2. My favorite memory from a 4th of July celebration is..
The 4th of July after my father became a US citizen...my freshmen year of college (mom had done it earlier, but dad was lazy lol) Dad busted out his red/white/blue outfit and boldly proclaimed that be was born to be a US citizen.

3. The best thing to eat for 4th of July is...
BBQ veggies and veggie meat (yeah we're um vegetarian lol....crazy CA people)

4. My favorite firework to see or light is...
one with the least noise....I watch fireworks with my ears covered and jump at loud bangs...always have

5. When I think of 4th of July and what it symbolizes for me, I think of...
How my parent's life was like in a Communist country, how they and their families were able to start a new life of freedom...especially religious freedom...and knowing about their life growing up, how much better mine is because of the fact that I am blessed to live here!

I will have a moment of silence tomorrow when I wake up and add your family to my thoughts/prayers.

Take care!
