Finalization- what did your baby wear?

We are scheduled for finalization in July. Dh and I are wearing "dressy casual" type clothing but wondering what Jaelyn should wear? I really want a special dress that will framed (shadow box) with our picture(more like portrait) and one of her alone.
Oh BTW we live in FL the heat index during that time of year is around 110-115 so satin, silks and lace are just too hot here...

Any suggestions??? websites?

TIA!!!

Sandra

We're in FL as well and we finalized on August 1st....it was HOT! I bought a dress from Baby Gap for Natalie to wear. It was special to me because I purchased the dress while we were on vacation in my home state. We were visiting family to make sure that everyone had a chance to meet our new daughter before finalization My Mom helped me pick out the dress...it was a "dressy" sundress that had little butterflies all over it. We all went dressy casual...I wore a dressy sleeveless shirt,a skirt, and sandals(of course!).

I'm attaching a pic of Natalie wearing her dress. You can't see her face but it's the only pic I have where you can see the full dress...in all the other pics we are holding her

BTW, congrats on your upcoming finalization!! Enjoy picking out the perfect dress for your little princess to wear

We finalized in late fall so Brina wore a brown courderoy sleeveless dress with pink roses and a pink long sleeve shirt underneath with pink tights and pink and brown shoes.

I wore a skirt suit, dh wore a suit and tie.

I think a tasteful, not too flashy sundress would be appropriate.

Congratulations on your finalization. We splurged with a Janie and Jack outfit. Here's the website.

Children's Clothing, Kids Clothing, Baby Clothes, Newborn Clothing, and Infant Clothing at Janie and Jack

This is not the best picture of the event -- but the best to see what Rebecca wore.

Good luck finding exactly what you want . . .

My kids wore dresses and suits like they do when we go to church. I figured we'd be inside an air conditioned car and building so we'd be safe.

Both of our finalizations were on warm days. It's amazing how I remember my ds' finalization and it was 12 years ago. . . his first pair of shoes (I lag on children needing shoes) so he didn't keep them on very long at all and dressy little boy's suspender shorts (linen) and his first button-down shirt. My dd wore a dressy Baby Lulu dress and soft shoes (her first, too, now that I realize it) -- For both of them, I had a second outfit ready just in case and by the time we waited for court, were done and got to the restaurant, they both had a reason to be changed, my dd much sooner than my ds, ha. (Recommendation, have a 2nd outfit with you!) Even though it was a done deal, I was surprised how emotional a time it was for us. Enjoy the day -- susan

Our finalization was today! DH wore a suit, I wore a dress and W wore a cute blue and white striped shirt and overalls. I intend to put the outfit in my cedar chest along with the outfit he wore home from the hospital.

I splurged!!!! OOOOhhhh did I ever splurge.

Our son was 2 when we finalized. I bought him grey herringbone pants, a button down shirt, his first tie and a blue wool blazer.

Just as we were about to leave for the adoption, he stood at the top of the stairs, took off his tie, said "I no wear this" threw it down the stairs, lost his balance and tumbled all the way down the stairs. As I was running down the stairs after him, all I could think was "Oh my God!!! If I take him to the hospital, we will miss the adoption . . . and If I take him to Court, they are going to file a complaint against me for neglect for not taking him to the hospital."

After my initial heart attack I reallized that, luckily, he didn't have a scratch. So we went to Court and he still refused to wear the jacket or tie. After the Judge came in and introduced himself, my son's pants slipped off his skinny but to the floor.

One year later he took the Jacket and tie out of his closet and decided that he was going to a Halloween party "as a Lawyer".

So here is my advice to you . . . buy something that makes you happy. And don't be shocked if your child makes some adjustments or otherwise changes your plans. After all . . isn't that what parenting is all about?

Congratulations. Best of luck to you and your family.

I would say just a cute little sleeveless dress with a diaper cover then! Maybe with embroidery on the dress and butt ruffles on the cover? Maybe some cotton soft sole shoes? Darn I need a girl

Ty wore wicked cute dark jeans and a beautiful sweater from Stormster.

P.S. 4ever....I'm gonna send you a PM.

We finalized in Jax and it was soo hot. Hubby and I wore suits... he had a tie, I had a dress suit that I wore to my residency interviews.... hot! Athena had a very pale pink pair of pants and top with an attached high sort of sweater-like thing but it wasn't sweater material it was the same as the rest of the outfit. There was lace-like detailing at the cuff and pant bottoms. She had a headband too. She looked enchanting! Kee had some light overalls.
Good luck and congrats

We finalized in Feb & we're in MO so it was very cold. DD wore a very cute red velvet dress with a matching hat. She had on a white bodysuit underneath with a lace collar. She looked very pretty. I don't have any pictures of her on this computer & can't get into my other one right now so I don't have any to share. But- my pic on my aviator is of the dress that she wore- don't know how well you can see it. I bought the dress at children's orchard for like $3 so I didn't spend alot but I already had it in my mind that if I didn't find anything there I was definately getting something special. To me it was just like buying a dress for christmas or easter- very special occasion. DH & I dressed nice but not really up. More like what you'd wear in an office.

My daughter wore a dress that had been mine and black patent leather shoes. Here she's pictured with the bunny bank we gave her as an adoption gift.

My mom had saved several of my dresses and I've had my baby wear them, especially for professional photos. I am now saving some of my favorite baby clothes to give to my kids for their kids. (Naturally I'm saving my old dresses that my daughter's worn for her daughters.)

Thanks guys,

This is just the type information (and tips) I was looking for!

I love the pics, they are all so beautiful!!!

I think the dressy sundress will be wonderful for our area and heat factor.

Of course i will be shopping for "the perfect dress" for days but at least I have a starting point thanks to all your advice...
