We are working with a small agency, and I can't figure out what is reasonable as far as contact with them. I usually e-mail once a month to get updates, but since it is a small agency, I am not sure if that is too frequent.

Do your SW usually give you general updates on what is going on with the agency, or do you contact them, and either way, how often?

We get monthly update e-mails. Why don't you ask your SW what's reasonable?

We typically didn't get updates unless there was some news or activity. I don't think once a month is too frequent to contact them. In fact, I would probably contact them every couple of weeks just to check in. Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the oil, yanno?

When we were adopting Tyler, I called all our agencies every Monday.

We get monthly formal updates but we contact about once every two weeks. I just started so I am sure this will develop as we go.

For those that recieve updates, what does an update include? And if you do call what information are you asking for? I guess I assumed we wouldn't hear anything until we were selected....but we just completed our homestudy so we are still new to domestic side of things.

jgriese1 - That's a good question! We don't know when our profile is shown unless our SW has a question about specific situation. So in that case, she would call us to talk it over.

I am looking for an update on what is going on with the agency in general.

But, some PAP might get also updates on whether or not their profile is being shown.

Questions which I wish I would have asked in the beginning are:

(1) How often can I expect to receive an update? Or how often does it make sense for me to call the agency to get an update?
(2) What will the update include?

I think if it gets to to be the one year mark, I am going to schedule a meeting with our SW just to review everything, including how often I should call, etc.

We were welcome to call as often as we liked (within reason of course!) but I chose to call on the last day of every month for an update on whether or not our file was shown. I did not want to know each and every time our file went out. I wanted to be in control of that and not always wonder. Our SW only called when she had news about a real possibility.
