OT: How to get rid of ants

We have had exterminators from 2 different companies out to our house (we live in the country) 3 times in the past year and a half and we STILL have ants everywhere!

Someone forwarded me an email talking about all the different uses of Bounce dryer sheets and one of them was for getting rid of ants. Well, I put a couple sheets out tonight and lordy be, NO ANTS!!!!!!!!

Just had to share...and to think of the $300 total for all those exterminators! ARGH!

Blessings, Michelle

Wow! I never know if those emails have true things in them. So glad to know that worked. Definitely cheaper than an exterminator and safer than sprays!

Another cheap way to stop ants!

When we moved into our current apartment, we had a massive ant problem. I searched around on the internet for ideas, and came across one that said to use cider vinegar (or basically any kind of vinegar). I went to the dollar store to get a cheap bottle of the cider vinegar, then doused a paper towel with it and wiped all around the window (where they were coming in mostly). Stopped instantly.

At that point, I also rolled the paper towel together until it was very thin and stuck it into the crevices.

It's been two years and still no ants! I didn't even re-wipe or change the original paper towels since that one time.

Vinegar is my hero! (it also is a good deterrent to keeping my cats off the counter since they HATE strong smells and make faces as soon as it hits the nose!)

OOOH...I will definitely use vinegar if they come back; I know I've got some of that around, my old cleaning lady used to mop my floors with it!

Any other ideas keep 'em coming...the little buggers just might come back!

Blessings, Michelle

At our previous house, we had ants coming in through big gaps under the back door. I just put down a solid line of flour across the threshold, and they wouldn't cross it. I had to fix my line a couple of times when the dog scraped across it, but flour's super cheap.

mondk...do you just lay the sheets where the ants are?

And, do they have to be bounce? ;-)

Yeah, I just laid the sheet on the kitchen counter by the sink. We normally use the Bounce Free for our laundry and I kinda thought maybe the smelly ones would be more repellent, so I used a regular Bounce sheet, but I"m sure an off brand would work just as good. So far so good; they are still gone!

Blessings, Michelle

My Mom swears by bay leaves! If you go into her kitchen they are tucked in, here and there, in little crevices. Try it! It's inexpensive and isn't too smelly.

Apple cider vinegar- check
bounce sheets-check

red pepper and bay leaves must buy some the ants must DIE

Oh and petroleum jelly works too but if you put iton wood it will soften the wood and make a mess. But the ants wont get past it and will learn.

"Terro" ant killer works outside. I found it at lowe's and the outside containers the kids cant get into.

On a side not have you ever squished an ant and left it there another ant will come and carry the dead ant back home. Found that out when my daycare kids were squishing them by the front door and told me to come watch. Its amazing the things you learn from a 3 year old.

Borax on little pieces of cardboard works. They eat it and take it back to the nest and it kills the whole nest. Works in one day.

Borax does work, but it needs to be where the kiddos can't get to it!

I [i]heard[i] recently that sliced cucumbers left out will make them go away, but haven't yet had the opportunity to try it (thank God!). I hate those little buggers and will do anything to get rid of them!
