Red face Lost Decree

Hello Everyone,

I'm really tickled to maybe become a part of this site. I have been an adoptive parent for 10 years and its definitely the best thing I have ever done. My son is the light of my life and to those of you still waiting... it took 3 years for me to become my boys mom... be patient, when its right it will happen.

Now to my question.... my sons social security is still in his pre-adoptive name. I want to change it but they require the Final Adoption Decree. We moved out of state recently and I can't find it anywhere Can anyone tell me how I go about getting a duplicate?

Thanks and God bless all of you

I would contact the agency or attorney you worked with, they should be able to give you one.

You could contact the county/city court to try to get another copy.

I was told to guard my son's like it was gold - records are sealed upon recording - sealed for everyone. I was told I'd have to petition the court for a copy and have a valid need for it (and the $ involved in doing so).

Don't be surprised if this isn't as easy as a phone call.

We were told almost the same thing as Brandy. We were told that although it wouldn't be impossible to replace, it wouldn't be a quick and easy process. When my purse was stolen and one of the things in it was my DD's SS card, I called SS and they wanted two forms of ID to replace it and they wanted orignals. Well, being that she was only 4 yrs old at the time, her forms of ID were limited to her BC and her adoption decree. They suggested I put them in the mail and they assured me they would mail them back ....... NOPE ! NO WAY !!! UH UH !!!!
