Kid's music - looking for new ideas
David loves music and we've been playing our kid's CD's to death! I'm looking for some new music to add some variety. I checked out a couple of Wiggles CD's from the library - but I wasn't crazy about them. David didn't seem too excited about it either - but he can be like that with new music. Still I want something I'm going to be able to tolerate listening to over and over again, you know?
Right now, our favorites are: Sweet Honey in the Rock (All for Freedom and I Got Shoes) Putamayo (World Playground and Sing Along with Putamayo) Julie Austin (Fandagumbo) And we have a couple of Raffi and Gred and Steve albums and some other stuff too. But those 5 are our favorites - David's too. So what do you and your kids really love? I need some new ideas! |

DD's favorite is a cd titled "Kids In Motion" by Greg and Steve. I don't mind it. It's upbeat, fun music. I bought it on Amazon.com for about 6.00 as a Christmas gift for DD last year.

Dan Zanes and Friends. (Dan Zanes was the singer for the Del Fuegos in the 80s.)
I find myself singing along with them all the time. Sabrina absolutely loves this music. They have an eclectic mix of sounds, some brazilian, spanish, folk, hip hop, etc. I recommend the albums House Party, Rocket Ship Beach, and Catch That Train. If you like spanish music, Nueva York is pretty awesome too. They do have a DVD with some videos, animations, and concert type show called All Around the Kitchen. Here's a Link dan zanes: news You can get an idea of the type of music it is as they have videos on their site. Last edited by tweetybirdus : 06-04-2009 at 07:02 AM. |

I try pretty hard to get the kids to listen to music that I can 'take' too... Jason Mraz's new CD is always one that they will 'tolerate' - thank god!! We also have every Wiggles CD out there, and a few kidz pop ones from McD's - I like the wiggles but god those kidz pop are painful!!
I also have a compilation CD of all summer type songs... Celebration is on there, heat wave, drift away, my girl, dancing in the streets - lots of older motown type stuff.... DD#1 loves that CD - you can't go wrong with motown!! I recommend some adult music so you don;t go completely insane and find yourself listening to the wiggles when you are alone (yes, this happened to me! UGH!!) Mega

Does it need to be kids music persay?
My kids got bored very easily with the kids music and really took to a lot of the 60's music. They LOVE the Beatles especially. Since David isn't really old enough to get the hang of the lyrics to grown up music and will mostly just respond to the beat of things, you might just try putting on some of YOUR favorite music. ![]()

Oh, I do. We usually have music playing and I play my music too. (We're listening to the Gypsy Kings right now. ) I'd like to find more kids music because it's a little simpler and very singable. We sing to him a lot, too. The Beatles are a great suggestion, though. It's been a long time since I've played my Beatles CDs.Listening to The Wiggles alone . . . Is that like drinking alone? It sounds like a very bad sign. ![]() Storm - For the Kids sounds great! Thanks for the suggestion. |

DD likes pretty much everything that has to do with music but two of her favorite kids music CDs are Moose Tunes for Kids and Bears Tunes for kids by Bret Holmes.

Yes, the wiggles alone was a bigggggg problem for me... Luckily, I only got through 2 or 3 songs before I realized it.... (only kidding - it was only one song!!!)
The Beatles #1s is great!! DD#1s best buddy's name is Jude, so we end up listening to "Hey Jude" about 20 times in a row - singing our heads off..... "na-na-na-na-na-naaaaaaaaa hey Jude!!"

Do you guys remember changing the words to Hey Jude:
Hey Jude I saw you nude Don't try to fake it I saw you naked teehee!! I love juvenile humor. Oak, you are lucky that you are in charge now. I have to listen to Jingle Bells by Burl Ives (I think) over and over and over in the car. Sometimes I get a break and can put on Winter Wonderland on the same CD. People think we are nuts when this is blaring out of our car in July!! |

Mega - Those rationalizations are never good. (It was only one drink. I swear.) An intervention may be necessary. I love "Hey Jude!" That's it. I'm definitely pulling out the Beatles. Motown we've got covered. Aretha is a goddess. Love . . . I wish I could say that I needed a 3-year-old to do this to me. But . . . I have a brother. And sadly, he's not going to grow out of his extremely-annoying-music phase. Sigh. Christmas music in July? Okay. I can deal. The Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack? There are some very interesting teenage memories there - so I'll tolerate that one, too. The one that gets me is . . . Kenny Rogers. He obsessed. Owns every freaking album. (And you wouldn't believe how many there are!) Dolly Parton I can handle when I'm in a good mood. Alabama, I'll even sing along with like a good sister. But Kenny Rogers makes my head spin around and my eyes roll back in my head. It's just not pretty. Last edited by OakShannon : 06-04-2009 at 12:23 PM. |

That's a new one....Honestly, have never met anyone who owned a Kenny Rogers CD or album! Hysterical!
Oh, I just thought of another good source of music....I like playing Broadway soundtracks. DD seemed to like Wicked (until she demanded Jingle Bells again, and I took Wicked out and lost it in the mess of my car!!). |
