Scared to get excited

ok guys got a question

We have accepted a match of a 19 month old child in ohio. My caseworker at my adoption agency overheard me telling my hubby that i was getting excitied. She then says now remember we still have to sign a contract between agencies.

What contract is she talking about? We are adopting a special needs child thru the foster system. O and by the way we waited a month on the paperwork to get to us before we could say yes or no if we would take him. During that time she made the comment don't get to excitied something could go wrong.

Now she has me on pins and needles. My hubby just keeps telling me that she HAS to tell me the very worst that could happen. That's her job. Below is what the cw sent us and im not sure what this is and how could this hold up the adoption.

Once the family accepts the match I will send via e mail
an agency contract request form. This is a request for
the contract to be initiated. The contract is
between your agency and ours reference placement,
supervision, finalization etc.

Thanks

You are adopting from another state, right? She is referring to ICPC which is the Interstate something something something (I'm sure someone will post with it -I can never remember and I've heard it umpteen times, too!) This is the agreement on which state will pay for what. Someone has to 'foot the bill' to cover the visits from the cw after the child is placed and before the adoption is final; who will issue the medical card, who will provide the adoption subsidy, etc.

It is a super huge pain, but it's all the paperwork that has to be in place before the child can have their adoption finalized. I understand why your cw cautions you about getting excited, but this is usually just a bureaucratic process that can get all snaggled up but does eventually get done.

Our ICPC took less than a month and that seems to be the exception rather than the rule. I think ICPC often takes around 2 months, sometimes more. Sometimes paperwork goes through without all the "i's" dotted and the "t's" crossed and the paperwork gets kicked back and has to be resubmitted. Sometimes you run into one key person (like the ONLY person in the state who can sign off!) is on vacation, or other silly hang-ups. Try not to get TOO excited because it may take some time, but DO get excited because you are moving forward.

Interstate Compact for the Placement of Children...

Yes, they have to work out what is covered, and who is paying subsidy and how much etc etc...

Good luck!

Interstate Compact

You gals/guys make me feel so great. We have not even went to the classes yet. We have to wait until school begins again for the next class to start. But we have seen a few kids we are interested in that are in other states.

Was yours a foster child placement (from the child's state foster care agency to your state foster care agency)?

I'm asking because "Brandon" is going home once ICPC is completed. His sw said it could take 4 to 6 months but I'm hoping it doesn't drag out that long. As much as I'll miss him, I'm anxious for this to be over. It's been a roller coaster ride from h*ll.

Maire-Kate's ICPC took 2 weeks & Hanna's took 5 days but both were private infant adoptions.

THERE ARE EIGHT DIFFERENT WAYS YOUR CHILD CAN DIE ON A CORDED WINDOW TREATMENT
Read "How Safe Cords Kill" at www.pfwbs.org

THREE CHILDREN HAVE STRANGLED TO DEATH SINCE ANGEL DIED ON 8/11/09.
Brandyn Coppedge died on 9/11/09. Rosie Smith died on 9/30/09 and Thapelo Kwofie died on 11/1/09. The Consumer Product Safety Commission is no longer recommending safety kits. They are now recommending that anywhere children live or visit should be free of corded window products.

RE: Brandon and other things

Sounds like Brandon might have been a little exhaustive!

Tell me about private adoptions? Do you mean through a private adoption agency? What are we talking about average money wise? Time Wise, etc? My husband was adopted years ago from Germany. As a six year old. He was thinking of adopting from there as well. But I see all these children here that need homes and we are so open on age groups up to age 14 and sibling groups. It just seems to me that we ought to look here first

You know after watching television and hearing about all these babies being left on doorsteps and in forest preserves (such as the 3 day old that still had the cord attached, etc.), I have often thought about advertising somewhere if it wasnt illegal; just call me, I'll take your baby. I raised five children, they are grown now. They were all my natural kids, and believe me, we had some "tests" to go through. But I am still ready to foster or adopt. So I dont see how these girls just leave their babies somewhere for the heck of it, etc., etc., Alright, I'm done sorry!
