Beware Your Adopted Kids!

OK, so I try not to be overly sensitive (though Marie Osmond's America's Favorite Mom special from last year classifying amoms as "nonmoms" still sort of bites!! heehee - - I hold grudges). But THIS stuff is enough to make me lose my p.oop....Just what adoptees need....to be demonized. GRRRRRR. Read the synopsis. I want to puke!! I mean...really?

Orphan

PS: Oh, by the way, Peter Saarsgard was like one of my favorite "indie" actors. No mas!

Ok- just the picture did look really creepy- don't think I could watch that anyway.

This will be yet another movie that will make others that haven't experienced adoption think that it's bad. I still have people who (when they find out DD is adopted) want to relay that horrible experience that their brothers cousins friends next door neighbor had with adoption. UGHHHHHHHHH.

BTW- I hadn't seen the thing on Marie Obmond- what's that about?

oh............ my............. god. that was absolutely horrible. my first thought was "just what i need....for the friends of my already not quite mentally healthy adopted teenager to start teasing her about being evil because of this movie." ugh. i hate that we try so hard to grow healthy adopted kids, to only be thwarted time and time again by media. i feel so sorry for the individuals this movie will impact. it is disgusting.

Steph, you are better off not knowing -- but in a nutshell there was a special last year where America voted for its favorite "Mom" == there were different categories like Working Mom, etc. Well there was a category called "nonmom" that included like mentors and women who worked in missions...oh, and adoptive mothers!! EEK. They caught a whole rash of you know what and tried to "cover" it, but it was lame-o!! (See, I don't hold grudges...I will not mention it again! haha!).

PS: I agree, Mommy.

Yeah that's pretty lame... ugh. At least it's just another awful horror flick so people will take it with a grain of salt...

About the Marie Osmond thing, I think what made it even worse is that the following issue of Adoptive Families conveniently forgot to include the 'thumb up' 'thumb down' section, when it should definitely have been mentioned...

It's fiction. There is so much more we can be up in arms about - but movies often go out of their way to create a dramatic storyline.

I'm a huge horror movie fan and I'm actually pretty interested in seeing this.

I don't think the problem is the movies - I think the problem is people taking their education from fictional stories...

Rarely is reality worthy of making a movie about.

Sounds kind of like The Ring. The girl that was in the well was the evil adopted child.

There are plenty of movies with characters that are the "villain" or evil and they aren't taken so seriously.
I understand the concern but the point of the movie is to entertain and in this case add "suspense" to people's lives. If someone is dense enough to allow a movie or two to depict what they think of a groups of people or racial groups then there are far bigger problems.

Freddy Kruger can be insensitive to burn victims and people with poor dental hygiene.

American History X which is based on an actual racial issue in this country could lead CC people feeling very offended.

Any movie with an AA criminal can be seen as detrimental to the AA society since AA's are already pegged as degenerates and criminals.

Movies where a man abuses a woman can be seen as derrogatory about the image of men.

There have been plenty of lifetime movies and other documentaries where I have seen women harm and/or kill their children and/or husbands.

Media is to make you laugh, make you cry and make you think. In today's society most of it is to get the "wow" or "gasp" factor. Hence the popularity of Reality TV

Supa, Jake is HOT!

Brandy and Prettyboi, you are right-- it's just fiction. But for some reason I feel like so many people not invovled in adoption really watch these things (the Lifetime movies included!) and get some of their ideas about adoption from them...though I know, it's ludicrous.

Btw, I just spit out my water at Freddy Kruger being offensive to those with bad dental hygiene...too funny!!

Don't you notice that usually scifi and horror movies just take people's fears about something and make a plotline out of it?

Many people (including myself) have a fear of open water because of what could be swimming underneath....hmmmm enter JAWS, Lake Placid for starters.

Many people have a fear of the dark....enter all sorts of horror movies

People have a fear of the 'boogie man' theory/story we've all heard....well there you go.

People ahve a fear of cemetaries, houses where people have died etc....

on and on and on....it doesn't really shock me that someone does a horror flick on a fear people have...older child adoption....frankly, movies like "bad seed" or those movies with psycho children also leave people with a fear of having a souless child as well....

IDK, but it makes for great discussion about media and entertainment and people's ideas....

It is sad they thought to sensationalize childhood trauma to make a buck when the real truth horifying to begin with!!

Movie VS my RADish

Girl raging and kicking bathroom stall. Our DS raging and punching lockers to the point his hand was fractured.

Girl buring down club house, Our DS setting fires in his closet.

Girl trying to kill little sister in car, Our DS tying a rope around his brothers neck on a two story club house telling him to jump.

Girl acting violently towards her parents, DS trying to stab me on two different occasions before he was arrested removed from our home.

Truth is much scarier than fiction. No more rose colored glasses here.
