Birthmother Card
I was SOOO excited today when I saw TWO Birthmother cards at Hallmark! However, I was a disappointed when I opened them up and BOTH of them were from adult adoptees. I'm glad that those cards are available, but you would think that with the huge number of open adoptions now, there would be cards available from children to their Birthmothers. I ended up getting a generic Mother's Day card and it will work fine, but I really had my hopes up this year!

Hallmark has a nice selection. We got our Mother's Day cards for the kid's bmom's there. I didn't find cards exclusively for bmoms, but found some that said just what we wanted them to say.
We bought the recordable cards and recorded each boy saying "Happy Mother's Day" and "I love you". I hope they like them.

I found my birth parents in December of 05 and have always found just the right Mother's Day and Father's Day cards for them. I know Birth Mother's Day is celebrated the Saturday before Mother's Day but I always want my birth mom to feel special on Mother's Day as well as my birth father on Father's Day.

Don't get me wrong, I found a perfect card. However, I was just hoping to find one specifically for a Birthmother from a young child. The two that they had from adult adoptees were wonderful though.

I spent FOREVER perusing the card section today because I wnated an audio card or pop-up card but just didn't find anything that felt right for our situation...too much "mom deserves a break today" kind of stuff which I think would just be hurtful as clearly my son's bmom isn't parenting. I ended up choosing a nice blank card instead. Maybe there's a market for special cards for birthmoms in open adoptions...someone design them and sell them on the internet!
