Off Topic: Need thoughts and prayers and ADVICE

Many of you have become my online friends, and I wanted to get some support since everyone's life at one point or another has been touch by cancer. My Mom found out on Friday that she has Ovarian Cancer and that it has spread already to the lymphoid (sp?). Any advice would help. Prayers would also be wonderful. She was supposed to have emergency surgery today but they had to put it off until Friday. Thus causing me more stress. The fact that she could die upsets me greatly and I was hoping for some advice, if anyone on here has had it and came through it? Thanks for letting me share.

God Bless,
Summer

I'm so sorry to hear this.

The only advice I can give is for you to stay strong, and for your mom to fight. It's amazing what the power of a positive mind can do.

Sending hugs and prayers your way.

I don't have a lot of knowledge about ovarian cancer, but I do know what it's like to hear that a parent has cancer. I know well what a terrible punch in the gut that is, and I'm so sorry you and your family have to cope with this right now. Please let me know if there's anything I can do.

I wish I knew something about ovarian cancer, I don't - but I do know people who have been diagnosed with advanced cancer who have done quite well and lived long lives with treatment. So there is always hope. Last weekend I found out my Dad has "aggressive" prostate cancer so I can totally relate to how you're probabaly feeling now. PM me if you want to vent/commisserate/share.

I hate to say it but the prognosis for metastatic (where it has spread) ovarian cancer is not good, however I don't know your mom's situation. (((HUGS))) Chemotherapy can give her a reduction in her pain and her symptoms. I hope the doctors give you some answers after her surgery.

Sadly, ovarian cancer is a bad one, not so much because it's more aggressive than other cancers but because it's hard to detect and frequently not diagnosed until it has spread. Once any cancer spreads, treatment becomes more difficult. However, just because it's harder to treat, doesn't mean it's impossible to treat. Stay strong - your mom will need you. Also, there is a strong genetic component to ovarian cancer and it's related to breast cancer so you should talk to your doctor about your own risks. Don't give up hope. Thinking of you...

No advice, but I will say a prayer for you and your mom, that things will be as easy as they possibly can for you.

*hugs*
