OT: Heinous plot by DIY stores revealed!
Being a typical do-it-yourself type guy, I do a lot of shopping at our three area home center stores: Lowes, Home Depot, and Menards. If you live in the midwest you'll probably know all three. In fact, I go to them so often that I started referring to them collectively as Lome Depards. It's sort of an inside, family joke now - "Let's take a trip to Lome Depards!"
Today, my wife was on the way home from work, sitting in traffic and bored out of her mind, and discovered that if you take the names Lowes, Home Depot, and Menards, and remove the letters needed to spell Lome Depards, you're left with this phrase: We shoot men. There you have it. It's actually an evil plot to kill us DIY guys. And all this time I'd been thinking they were only running an evil plot to get all of my money.

Well, since I'm the DIY girl, I'm sure they're out to kill me too, but I'm my DH thinks it is an evil plot to get all of our money.
We have Lowes and Home Depot here and one day, after dropping our daughter off at dance,we were standing in the waiting room talking about where to go for a hour or two and I said" let's go to the adult toy store". You can imagine the looks we got and then the "what?!" questions. We had to explain we were going to Home Depot, but it is still our favorite thing to say, since there are absolutely none of those other types of stores anywhere near were we live.

ROFL Why bother to shoot the men when they'll eventually do themselves a serious injury with a power tool (or a hand tool, for that matter), roll of carpet, or piece of pressure treated lumber?
![]() We don't have a Home Depot of a Lowe's locally so we make plans and drive the hour and a half to the nearest one for dates. Yep, that's right: Dh and I spend our Date Afternoons at Home Depot. We pay our teen to watch the little kids and crank up the old Ford F250 and lumber (in the verb sense) over to Home Depot to buy lumber (in the noun sense). So romantic! ![]() Had to edit to come back and share that as I was typing about men doing themselves serious harm with tools and lumber my 7 yo Ds got his head stuck in a folding chair. I didn't ask how, or why...those are truly pointless questions. In fact I didn't say one thing, just got it off his head. He had his head stuck between the seat of the chair and the rung between the back legs. It was folded flat, with the seat jutting out in front of his face, and I had to expand it back into a chair to get it off of his head. He mentioned as he was leaving, "That's why you don't put your head in a folding chair, huh?" Ya think?

LOL! That is great Joe! Too funny!
Barksum - I am kind of glad to hear that DH and I aren't the only ones who spent date night (or more often date afternoon) at Home Depot!

Hmmm....Maybe that's why the women outnumber the men 10,000 to 1 on here...I wonder if THAT'S what happened to KatiesEd-Dad.
Keep safe, Joe. We need you around here... ![]() |

It reminds me of the old I Love Lucy episode where Lucy had her head stuck in a trophy cup, and with Ethel saying "this could only happen to you."

LOL! Personally I think their evil plot is to get men to buy "toys" they #1 do not need, #2 do not know how to use, and #3 make a lot of noise, mess and at times injury, which causes #4 men sleep on couch syndrome.
I'm spending considerable time at Lowe's & HD myself these days. I got 3 new light fixtures and dh installed one of them just fine. Went to install the 2nd one and somehow (like you Barki, I didn't ask) got the wires mixed up. It would turn on but the second you turned the switch off, the breaker would trip. "hmmm...I better fix that." Ya think? LOL! He fixed it alright because this time, when you turned off the lightswitch, the light stayed on. So what does he do? Goes to Radioshack to buy some meter thingie that will tell him which wires are hot. No, it still didn't work right. Called our handyman and he installed the remaining two. We have light and of course our new meter which will never be used again I'm sure. LOL!
