Has anyone read this book: WHY GENDER MATTERS
It is so interesting! Would love someone to talk to about it!

no Storm, I haven't read it although I have heard about it. Lately I feel as though every sentence I utter is preceded by, "I didn't read it but I heard about it on NPR". I end up knowing just enough to make people think I actually am well read. Now I am curious. I'll check it out at the library.
Meantime, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it... |

Let me read a little more and then I'll post more.....but I'm a big believer that the brains of males and females are different and I want to understand my boy better!
BTW when I was dating my sister told me I had to listen to NPR (that afternoon show i forget the name) so I sounded well informed on dates! I never did but I do listen now!

You got me curious so I just read the blurb about it on Amazon and now I am even more curious about it. I will definetly have to see if by any chance our library has it. Having two boys and a girl, I am not sure I agree with him (based on a blurb on Amazon, so not sure that is much basis) but I am intrigued.

I haven't heard of the book, but I've definitely heard that we are hardwired differently. Sounds like an interesting book!

I'm skeptical. Read critique's of Sax's work here:
Language Log Mark Liberman from Language Log said this: "In his books, Leonard Sax is a political activist using science to make a case, not a scientist evaluating a hypothesis." That was the first impression I got reading summaries of Sax's work. It immediately tripped my psuedoscience and cherry picking radar.

I'm going to look at this one, thanks Storm!
Personally, I can't imagine anyone thinking we're not wired differently (especially those married to the opposite sex!! I mean hellloo ) |

I have always said that Men and Women are much different. You have peaked my interest. If I ever get to the library I will see if I can find it.

I'm particularly interested in his theories about ADD/ADHD and risk taking in boys. How to speak their language to keep them safe.
I do see how it might be offensive to some, but DS is exactly the kind of "extreme boy" he talks about.

Just wanted to quickly say that I'm reading Dr Sax's 2nd book, "Boys Adrift" and it has helped me understand my 9 yr old immensely. He's always been an active boy and we wondered if he may have hyperactivity issues, but I find he more accurately fits the characteristics of a hyper SENSITIVE boy as described in this book. It's an enlightening book. I highly recommend it when you finish "Why Gender Matters"...can we trade?!?!?

PS to my last post
"Boys Adrift" also addresses school and video game issues that might not be on your plate at the moment, but will be sneaking up on you sooner than you think. Again, he examines these issues from a really fresh perspective.
