So, I'm struggling with whether or not to send a mother's day gift to my son's bmom? We've remained in contact since his birth (emailing bi-weekly), and I feel like she is part of my family now. She has three other children who all live with her.
DH thinks it's a bad idea because it would be a reminder, but I told him that allowing someone to adopt your child isn't something you ever put out of your mind. I thought a small angel statue, because that's how I think of her, would be nice without being too "motherly" and hopefully not offensive at all. Please let me know your thoughts on the subject and suggestions for gifts that would be received happily as the intentions are pure. Thank you!

I got L's bmom something last year and I am getting her something this year as well. We send pictures every month so this year I made her a photo book on snapfish.com. It was only $20 and I think they are very nice keepsakes. They have ones on that site that are paperback that are even cheaper. Just a thought.

I think the angel is a lovely idea...
She will be thinking about her placed child on mother's day no matter what. A small thoughtful gesture such as you are suggesting seems perfectly appropriate and a way of letting her know you are thinking of her. |

I'm going with a very nice card and a gift card...but that is b/c our bmom is at J.C. right now and nice things she's had have been stolen from her. Most of her belongings are stored at a friend's house in FL or at my house. I'm also giving her a nice pic of Joshie (we had professional ones taken) in a nice frame that she can keep in her dorm...surely that wouldn't get stolen.
Blessings, Michelle

I think the angel is a beautiful idea.
Honestly, whether I get something on Mother's Day or not I'm thinking of my Kiddo. Getting something makes the day a little easier though.

First mom to the amazing Kiddo and adopted adult. 1-4-2009 Mom and I visit Kiddo despite the bad weather. He really loved the blue mittens I made him and even helped me plan my living room. Apparently Hot Wheels wallpapper is the way to go. 2-16-2009 I got a promotion, that comes with a raise. Mom and Dad are visiting and we're going to Al's for pie to celebrate. 4-27-2009 Dad surprises me with a Lady Ugly Stick (an awesome fishing rod that is pink) and a 2nd Iowa Light Artillery Battery jacket. I'm a lucky girl! 5-30-2009 Kiddo turns five. It is hard to believe he is that old already, it seems like just yesterday he was being born. I was at peace for the first time on his birthday, what a nice feeling. 6-13&14 2009 A cannon live fire in Casper WY. We got third place and I got to see Devil's Tower for the first time, it was pretty awesome. 7-4-2009 Amelia the kitten comes to live with me and Liz. Talk about jealousy, Liz will adjust though. |

Thank you for the feedback. I've thought about a photo album, or even just one picture in a nice frame; however, when we were at the hospital, she only wanted one picture...I offered more, but she refused. Hardly anyone in her family knows about the adoption or that she was pregnant, including her other children.
She has access to my website and I keep updated pictures on there at all times. She's told me on numerous occasions that she loves going out and looking at how fast he's growing...still, I think having a hard copy of one of the pictures isn't the best idea for our situation. Thank you again and keep the ideas coming if you have any others!!
