Joshie climbed out of his crib tonight!

And ran into the living room where I was and said "Hi Mommy!" I checked his crib for things he might have stacked to climb out on and there was nothing but his blankie. So I called dh who just couldn't believe it.

My plan for dh's vacation this next week: convert the baby bed to a toddler bed, move his changing table out and his new dresser in, making sure his lamp cord stays behind his old dresser, making sure all outlets have those safety plugs in them, buying door knob safety covers for his closet and bathroom door, and buying a gate to go across his doorway. We still have the monitor system in place, but I just can't shut his door b/c I peek in on him a lot at night.

My baby is no longer a baby! It is bittersweet!

Blessings, Michelle

Have you considered a crib tent??? We had one for my son and it kept him in his crib until he was 3 The longer you can contain them--the more sane you will remain...lol But I know lots of people who do the toddler bed early and it works out great. Goodluck and OMG! I'm soooo not ready for this again.

My SIL discovered that my nephew could get out of the crib when one Saturday morning at 6:00am he was standing at her bedside tapping her shoulder and said, "cartoons!" They have had a horrible time keeping him in his room since then. I think the crib tent sounds like a good idea. I will check that out myself for when W gets big enough to get out of his crib.

Oh noooo E and Joshie are neck and neck in most things. I know it's only a matter of weeks before this happens in our house. I TOTALLY plan on trying the crib tent. DS's gross motor skills far exceed his sense of danger and speed. Letting him out of his cage (ahem i mean crib!) terrifies me!

Good luck! I LOVE dramatic climbing out of bed stories (not the one i heard where a toddler broke BOTH his legs on the way down ) but mommy being woken out of a deep sleep by baby stroking her hair and the ensueing shock, etc!

Go get a crib tent - NOW!!!! I tried over my Christmas vacation to get DS to sleep in his toddler bed because he was climbing out of his crib. After two sleepless nights (first night fell asleep in the guest room with me at midnight, second night fell asleep in the toddler bed at 2 am) I got a crib tent. He also did not nap those two days. He will not nap at my mom's either because he can climb out of her crib. The crib tent has really made things nice. I even took it on vacation with us. However, I am going to try the toddler bed again this summer.

My daughter pulled herself up and out and hit the floor with a thud when she was 21 months old. Thankfully, she was not hurt. I now line the floor around her crib with blankets before putting her in to sleep!

Well, since my Joshie is so obsessed with Elmo, I went to Ebay and found an Elmo toddler bed. I showed it to dh and he said let's get it so we can take the crib apart and put it in storage. It is coming from CA, so we may not get it til end of this week or so so he will just sleep on his mattress on the floor. Tomorrow we are moving his room around and making sure it is entirely child proof. We bought all sorts of plastic safety things today at WalMart.

So far, we are good to go!

Blessings, Michelle

I would go with the crib tent, maybe hold off on the toddler bed. My DD Bea climbed out right around age 2, fell, and broke her wrist. The crib tent bought us close to another year with cribs. It's nice when they are contained!

I got mine from Babies R Us. It cost either $60 or $70, but I did not care.

True Story

Two months ago a couple at the church I attend lost their daughter in a crib accident. She was 14 months and climbed out of her crib. The problem was the changing table was too close to the crib and when she fell she got caught between the crib and the changing table and strangled.

Please make sure that your furniture is spaced far enough away from the crib that if your child climbs out that they will not get stuck or hit their heads.

I would post a link to their blog but am not sure if we are permitted to do that.

I have not heard of crib tents but will be checking into one this coming weekend.

Dh said no to the crib tent, so he converted his crib to the toddler bed (it was one of those 3 in 1 cribs anyway) but we don't think the mattress is low enough. Joshie fell out of bed once last night, all he needed was some soothing and went right back to bed. We still plan to use the Elmo bed and put his crib into storage. His whole bedroom only has 3 pieces of furniture in it: 2 dressers and his bed; we took the changing table completely out. None of the pieces of furniture is near enough to the others that he could strangle. That is really scary!

Blessings, Michelle
