OT - more hazardeous chemicals found in baby products

Article and Campaign for Safe Cosmetics*:*New Report: No More Toxic Tub more detailed one.

I'm just so upset right now. Of course what we've been using (Johnson and Johnson body wash, as they've tolerated it very well and have no dry skin issues), has one of the chemicals in it. I'm really glad we only wash them twice a week and have never used lotions.

But when will they stop poisoning our babies????

I have no idea what to use to wash them now!

I know this is extreme for some people but I only use organic products and foods when caring for my infants. Even if the parents don't use it at home I just don't feel comfortable bombarding their little bodies with all the chemicals that are found in typical infant products. This also includes organic cotton sheets (which are fantastic for allergies) and organic formula.

As they get older I stick with organic milk but I ease up on other organic products. I'm really strict with all organic for all kids under 12 months though.

You can't always win with organic formula though... Apparently the similac one is much sweeter than the others, plus I know my two would not have tolerated it...

But it's just too expensive to buy organic everything. They were mostly on organic baby food, and I still try to buy a lot of organic stuff (fruit, milk and veggies mostly) or at least 'natural' stuff, but selection is limited and some stuff just breaks the wallet. Sometimes it seems only rich people will manage to raise their kids free of dangerous stuff, and it's really sad.

I agree that it's crazy expensive. I have the fortune of being able to claim all my organic purchases as tax deductible because of my daycare. I use Earth's Best Organic Infant Formula. It's something insane like $17 a can but I get it whole sale for $13 a can if I buy a case.

Shop around. Maybe you can find organic items cheaper by using a co-op.

Amen. I find it really disheartening. We're on a tight budget because I left my job to stay home with my son. I try to buy organic, natural products - but it's very expensive and there's a limit to what we can afford.

I feel so frustrated and powerless. I try as a mom to buy him safe, developmentally appropriate toys and to fix him healthy food. And then I find out there are chemicals in his formula cans, (and now soap) lead in the toys, salmonella in the peanut butter, e-coli in the spinach. . .

My daughter has dry skin and our pediatritian told me use nothing but Dove. He said baby soaps are junk. I bought Dove liquid for sensitive skin, it seemed to help with the dry skin.

We use California Baby and it works great both as a shampoo and body wash, it can be found at babies r us and target; and we love Canus goats milk lotion as well...
A little goes a long way too...
