Double Stroller for a 4 year old & newborn

I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions for me

We are "matched" with an expectant mom due at the end of April. Our DD is 4 and while I wish she were better at staying with me when we are out and about, she is not and I will need a double stroller that will hold her and a newborn, and still be easy to push. I'm not quite 5 feet tall, so it can't be huge

The trouble is that DD is already almost 40 lbs and many of the double strollers I've seen only hold that much in weight for the seats, though I've also heard that you can go over the weight limit on most strollers without a problem! Right now we use a Maclaren Triumph for her, by far my favorite stroller yet and we've had a few!

I have looked at the Graco Quattro Tour duo, and that seems heavy and awkward to push with her weight in the front and a baby in the back.

I have also looked at the Baby Trend Sit n Stand stroller and am leaning towards this but I've heard people either LOVE them or HATE them.

I am thinking I want one that will hold an infant carseat (probably a Graco Snugride, especially if I borrow my sister's!) but if there is a good one that doesn't hold a carseat, and works for my dilemma, I would definitely consider it.

I've heard side by sides are harder to push if you have one heavier child and one lighter child but I've never tried one!

I really have no idea what to do and I've looked and looked online. We don't want to spend too much money because I don't know if we will adopt a third child (I want to but DH is not so sure) and we probably won't need a double for too long with the current situation.

I just purchased the Baby Trend Sit n Stand 2 months ago for my 3 1/2 yr old and newborn.

DS loves it. He likes that he can sit or stand up and it makes him feel like he has a choice.

It is universal and most baby car seats will fit.

The one thing I dislike is that the basket is hard to access. Other than that I love it.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE our sit -n- stand. So do the kids. It is easy to open/close. It gives the big guy options to sit or stand, and maneuvers really well. Our kids are 5 & 2....we've had it since our 2yo was born.

Good luck to you!!!!

Thanks for the replies

It is good to hear from people who have kids roughly the same age as DD and newbaby will be!

Do you both have the Baby Trend version?

We have the sit n stand for my niece, age 3 (whom I babysit daily) and my son. It is pretty good, but a little on the heavy side. Before we bought it, I took Ben's carseat and my niece to target, took down the display one and drove it around the store for a bit. I'd recommend that you do the same with your daughter and either a "borrowed" baby or at least the carseat with your purse or something else in it. Then you'd have a better idea if you like it or not. Good luck!

We have a sit and stand by trend for our 3 1/2 and the new baby we are expecting. We've actually used it to go to the park already because A thinks it is cool. It is cheaper than the Joovy version. It fits our infant carseat so I think it's great.

Oh. Thought of another question! Do you guys have the sit n stand with just the rear bench or do you have the one with the extra seat you can remove (I think it is called the plus)?

we have the Joovy version of the sit n stand. I really like it. we have 3 kids right now: 2, 5, & 10. Our 10 year old is very small (50 pounds soaking wet) and she can still get into the rear seat.

we had it when the youngest was a newborn and it has grown with us.

I do agree that the basket is a pain to get to, but it is nice to have a place for 2 of our 3 kids to ride when we are out.

we are adopting an infant and I do plan to buy a lighter weight side by side umbrella for quick trips by myself. we only drag the joovy out when we are out all day.

We have the Joovy one. I like the Baby Trend better because of the cup holders! Lol.

I don't think I would invest in a double stroller with a four year old. I would keep the four year old in the stroller and wear the baby. By the time the baby is too big to be worn the four year old will certainly not want to be seen in a stroller. As for staying with you, we had two of those kinds of kids and neither of them would ride in a troller either, they were put on harnesses and everyone was happy. They could walk but not get away and I knew they were safe. I think Sam was still sometimes taking rides in the stroller when Miranda came home (he was four) but within a few months he just didn't fit and he was independent enough to want to walk.

I get what lisa is saying - we got it mostly for the airport disneyworld, the zoo, fairs, long walks - times where we want them closer and by the end of the day even my legs are tired. with a sit and stand - it's not embarrassing and the older child can really come and go as they want

to answer your questions:
We do have the Baby Trend.
We have the one with only one seat and the bench.
I do like the Baby Trend better than the Joovy because it has cup holders, has more room on the bench than the joovy, and it's $60 cheaper
I don't think it's heavy, but that's me. Sure it's heavier than my Combi single stroller..but it's not to heavy for me to get in and out of the trunk.

Good Luck!

We have the baby trend one that has the removable seat too. The seat is easy enough to take out and put back. It's nice to have, especially when I occasionally babysit another younger child who can't do the bench seat.

Lisa in venice: I totally hear what you are saying. I do plan to wear the baby, so I have thought about skipping it initially to see if I still feel the need for one down the road. That is also part of the reason why I don't really want to spend tons of money on something, which is why the Baby Trend Sit'n'Stand appeals to me, because I don't know how long it will actually be used!

At least if this placement happens, it won't be freezing cold winter while newbaby is still tiny like it was when Natalie was born. Although, I do like the convenience of being able to just move an infant seat to a double stroller if newbaby falls asleep while in the car.

Who knew this could be such a dilemma?

I am so glad you started this thread as I am in the same boat! We're getting ready to look at sending in our paperwork for our second child and I've started thinking about the sit 'n stand strollers too. I think we're going with the Baby Trend but can't decide on the extra seat or not. My little one is young enough he may still want someplace to sleep once in a blue moon!
