Thrush?
Anyone had to deal with this with their kids?
Meradith (5 weeks old) has had a white tongue for weeks and a friend of mine said she thought it was thrush. Called the dr and sure enough, they didn't even make me bring her in, but prescribed meds. The problem is that she has been on the medication (Nystatin) since Saturday and there isn't much of a change. Plus she is getting an upset tummy and gas. Anyone have any idea how long the medication should take to kick in? Or any other great ideas. (Yes, I'm boiling everything) -Kristin

My two year old had thrush as a baby and nothing seemed to help! We did the nystatin and something else from the doctor and it didn't help. We were buying distilled water to mix with her formula. I think I even tried putting yogurt on her tongue. Nothing. Then it finally went away on its own after a month or so. I hope you have better luck than I did!

yeah, it is a pain, you really just have to let it run it's course. Also are you baby brushing her gums and tongue yet? Try that also, it helps prevent it

Nate had it at about that age, too. I want to say that it took about 5-7 days to really see a difference. We boiled everything at 24 and 48 hours. All was good, and then a week after stopping the meds, it came back! I had forgotten to to boil or replace the bottle brush! All that boiling, and I forgot it! Another 2 weeks of meds, and it was gone for good.
The Nystatin was such a pain! He would gag and spit up everytime we gave it to him (4 times a day). It was a wrestling match to get it in, and really upset his little tummy! Every piece of clothing had yellow stains! Yuck! |

Cameron had thrush a couple times. The first time, the nystatin worked just fine. The next time while in the hospital, it made him puke. One of the NP's pained his tongue with this purple stuff that really worked wel.. I can't remember the name obviousy, but it worked great!
