Filing Taxes...Yourself vs. Professional

we usually do our taxes ourselves online. since our adoption is completed and we can claim the tax deduction, i'm wondering if we should use h&r block or another tax professional. did you do your taxes yourself when you claimed the tax credit or did you have someone else do them? i want to make sure that we get as much money back as possible. thanks!

I file online with HR block - it's like 15 dollars.

I've gotten my credits every year and always get all my money back. It also saves your info so every year it automatically puts my kids info in and carries over the remaining credit.

We have an accountant. Unforunately we don't qualify for the tax credit because we make too much.
It sure could come in handy now!

Well I'm an accountant so I did mine myself. But it is pretty straight forward with Turbo Tax or TaxAct. I would not waste the money on a professional.

We used TurboTax after both adoptions and had no problems inputting the amounts - we had more than the covered expenses for each adoption so both times we got the full amount back (at least the full amount we qualified for based on income). It's very straightforward, TurboTax asks you the questions in a way it's pretty hard to input incorrectly, IMO. That's the only product I can speak for although I am rather flummoxed that they are charging more every year to use it!

Heart

We've always had ours done on base. This year, we'll probably use turbo tax and file ourselves, as we can't make it to a base during the week.

We have used TurboTax online over the last few years all with the adoption tax credit and had absolutely no problems. It walks you right through the questions
