Has anyone heard this? Is it true?

There was a link sent to me and I was curious if anyone has heard this. I have been behind the times since life is changing daily... Just curious!
If so, it will be a sad day for all of us who love yard sales and thrift shops... UGH!!!

February 10, 2009 it will be illegal to re-sell any used children's products including toys and clothing. | Ron Paul Wins! | Campaign for Liberty at the Daily Paul

I heard this yesterday from one of my mom groups. It it so absurd, and very sad. No more brand names for us, because I'm not about to pay retail!

I was hoping this was a rumor. If not, we'll have to start underground swaps to pass around our kids clothing.

Yep heard about it. And as far as I can tell it is true. I fully plan on going to my local consignment stores in the next couple of weeks and clearing off the shelves of clothes for my daughter to grow into over the next couple of years. Luckily one of the bedrooms in my house has just been turned into a storage room so I will just pack them away and wait until she grows.

Unhappy

It's true, but if I understood correctly from the news I saw last night, the commission is meeting again and they will review and possibly revise these requirements. My fingers are crossed that they will amend their rules. These requirements would put a lot of resale stores out of business.

Yes, it's true. Go up to new posts to find the large thread regarding this.

There are probably 3 or 4 other threads on the forums about this. I posted a link on one to a news station in Tampa that actually talked to the Director of the Consumer Protection Agency. The director said that the law will not apply to one of a kind items. Meaning that any object donated to a thrift store is not under this law.

Here are two links about it:

Consignment shops are in the clear after Feds clear up new lead law | 10connects.com | Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater

The Feds clear up consignment shop chaos over new lead law | 10connects.com | Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater

Here's the link to the Consumer Product Protection Act:

Information on the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA)

At this time they are already looking at exceptions to the law for small business owners who may make items for kids(i.e., crafts makers, wooden toy makers, etc) and some exceptions have already been grated..

Thank you Caddorose, I was about to respond because there seems to be so much confusion on this and I already responded on one of the first threads but there seems to be new threads popping up every couple of days

The new law DOES NOT effect garage sales, craigslist, ebay, second hand stores, etc. I mean; come on, does anyone think that it would be enforcable if it did?? They are going to send agents out to every town to every garage sale?? I don't think so... I am glad the news is getting out there though, so people can stop worrying. I know my kids would be wearing rags if I could not shop at the Goodwill, garage sales, Savers, etc.!

So it's just for typical retail stores? That makes sense, I wouldn't buy second-hand at a K-Mart but don't take away my garage sales or ebay!!!

I saw something on the news about it last night. I couldn't hear the entire story (DS was a bit loud) but they were talking to a children's consigment shop and they were saying something about possibly having to toss merchandise out. I think I'll call one of the baby consignment shops in my area to see what's going on with them.

News out today:
New clarifications from the government about the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA)

CPSC Clarifies Requirements of New Children’s Product Safety Laws Taking Effect in February

So we can happily buy at our favorite thrift stores without fear of government reprisals.
