Wow! I did a strict very very light macrobiotic "fast" last year. It was awesome. But too expensive to do again as all the meals were prepared and then I had to cook in a double boiler. I totally like the "idea" of this. I wonder what the syrup is for though, to keep energy up? I read you can take the cayenne in capsule form.

I don't need to lose weight at the moment but I am fatigued, have a chronic illness and could generally use a nice cleanse but I'm also afraid of migraines. I treat mine with Frova (a lot like Imetrex). If I say I'm going to do it I probably will last four days, maybe 5. But I really want to see what its' like for you Butta and any others.

Good luck. I'll bet you'll feel GREAT after.

Day #2
Thanks for all the support, I really enjoyed waking up this morning and reading the posts ) So, I am just starting day 2 (its only 7:30 here). I am feeling proud of myself that I got through Day #1 and all of the temptations! I wasn't hungry but thought about food a lot. It was my oldest son's birthday sleepover (a house full of 13 y.o. boys and I wasn't driven to drink!) and I made two trips to Sam's Club. The first for regular household shopping, including the cake and a rotisserie chicken that I had to smell all the way home... then back to pick up the pizzas So, I just mostly stayed in my room, sipping my lemonade LOL and explained to my son that he would have to take care of feeding his friends, cutting the cake, etc. I just am not sure if I would be strong enough But I was! I know half the cake is still down there in the refrigerator and I am not tempted -yet!

I have realized that a lot (most??) of my treats for myself are in the form of food... not huge amounts, but just a little here and there, so that is interesting and something I will have to work at replacing with something else.

Storm, I considered the capsules for the cayenne but I also read that it is not that good of an idea because when you drink it, the taste of the cayenne in your mouth prepares the rest of your body for it, whereas if you take the capsule all of a sudden !BAM! the capsule explodes in your stomach and it can be kind of a shock to your system Soooo, I am trying to figure out alternatives. I am thinking that if I make up a "shot" of the cayenne, a litle bit of the lemon juice and maple syrup and do it in one swallow and then just follow with the rest of the mixture it might not be too bad.

The thing that I love the most about TMC is it's simplicity and relative low cost. No expensive supplements, it has been working for 60 years and apparently the balance of the ingredients is a big part of it. When I first heard about it I thought that the maple syrup was maybe for the taste, to make it palatable. But it is actual a crucial part of the balance and provides your body with energy. They DO say that if you are doing the cleanse for weight loss more than anything that one can cut down on the maple syrup. That is part of why I am doing it, but mainly for the health benefits, so this time I am trying to just really stick to the plan

So far no migraines, just a little headachy at times, but nothing like a migraine (fingers crossed, knocking wood!) yet! I have had poor circulation for YEARS (my feet are ALWAYS cold and I live in Hawai'i!), so the benefits I am most hopeful to gain by cleansing are migraines and circulation.

OK, thanks again guys! I am off to squeeze some lemons!

I've been following your posts. I'm so glad you made it through day 1! I know you can do this!!!!!

I'm seriously thinking of trying it myself. I can't wait to hear about your results!!!

Where do you find the grade B syrup? Is it with the regular syrup?

Thanks feelingreyt! I got the Grade B Maple Syrup at Whole Foods. I think you can get it at most health food stores but Whole Foods has their own brand (365) and it was WAY cheaper. I like to support our smaller, local health food stiores but their maple syrup was $37.00 and Whole Foods was $19.99!

I tried the "shot" of cayenne, littloe bit lemon juice and little extra maple syrup. YUCK!! But it was over quickily and I could then sip the lemon juice/maple syrup/water and it actually tasted pretty good. I think I will have better, long term success doing it that way.

Did the salt water flush for the first time this morning... whhhooooeee that is no joke! LOL I acidentally did two teaspoons of salt to 32 oz of water (found out after it was only supposed to be ONE teaspoon, whoops!) but it didn't taste that bad, it was a lot of water to get down all at once, but not too bad. And it REALLY works!

Yes! And still flushing! LOL

I am not sure about substituting honey (they are pretty specific), but I know that you can also get the maple syrup online pretty easily.

Okay, I can do a shot of the pepper stuff, I just don't think I can sip it all day.

I'm going to go get the stuff to do this tomorrow! Thanks for letting me know about whole foods. I just have to find the TMC website again, so I know what I need.

I talked to DH about it and asked if he wanted to do it with me. He couldn't do the salt flush though (well actually he could because I would be that the saltwater drink has less than 2100mg of salt in it, and that's his max for the day)...but I was going to have him do the Tea that the other person mentioned using, and he said NO. So I tried to explain how it would make all his old backed up poop come out...figuring that was something that would interest boys, but he said that shredded wheat did that for him too, so he was all set.

Can you give me the link to the site that you use for your recipe?

Congrats!

One thing I do for taste is use half lemons and half limes (I believe I read somewhere that was acceptable) and the first time I started with less cayenne at first. Now, I am a huge fan of hot...so I use the recipe amount.

Good luck tomorrow...day three is T-O-U-G-H!!! But your can do it!!!

Thanks angelkisses I may try the limes at some point but now that I am doing the cayenne as a shot I am enjoying the lemonade right now. They also say you can add non caffenated herb teas too, so I may try that too. I am a little headachy today, but still nothing bad. I am looking forward to the week starting and being a little busier. It is kind of tough staying at home and thinking of food! Grrrr! LOL I'm not hungry but just the thought of different foods... But I am glad that I did the SWF (Salt Water Flush) today, when I was going to be at home, with no plans, since I wasn't sure of how it would work.

Aclee, yay!! I am glad you are going to give it a try I don't think I mentioned but when I went into Whole Foods they had a big display with the original book and all the ingredients for the cleanse, grouped together. The site that I have found to be the most helpful is this one: The Master Cleanse Book Everyone's Raving About
As I said my dad bought me the book which is great but the site alone has lots of good info.

So far today it is still going well. I just had my second shot (and even added a little more cayenne to make sure I will get the full daily amount by splitting it up into 3 or 4 shots) and it was fine, very tolerable. I'm still not hungry and waiting for it to be worse... I think day #3 will be bad, but we will see We are going to dinner at my son's dad's tonight and I told him I would not be eating (his really yummy chicken!) but sipping my lemonade He asked if I wanted to reschedule but I want to kind of live my normal life and the kids still have to eat! So we are going.

Heart

You are doing so good! Are you aiming for a certain number of days or just going as long as you can hold out?

I'm planning to go to Whole Foods and get everything I need next weekend. My DH is gone all week and I can't take my medically fragile son anywhere in public during this season.

Thanks DDW and Supa I am aiming for the full 10 days (and today I feel like I can do it) but I will also be happy if I can last 5. It is really interesting to find out how much of my life revolves around food... family time at dinner, a special treat (not always bad, but Jamba Juice, even, still food), if I stop in at my sons' father's either I may bring him something (the other day it was some pears and some passion fruit from our garden, nothing bad, but... FOOD!), or else he cooks... So, I am doing a lot of reading and watching TV (closing my eyes to that really yummy looking burger in the Wendy's commercial)

anyone know what the deal is with meds? I take Prilosec, Advil and Tylenol everyday...can I still do that on this program? I can't find any info...

I'm hoping since I take those anyway, they will help the headaches...

Hey did anyone ease into the cleanse with a few days of no meat/dairy and then a few days of raw eating and a couple days of juicing? I think I might want to do that. It suggests easing in for people that might have more toxic build up (like overweight people, and people with medical issues...which pretty much sums me up!)...

I assume since this is called a "cleanse" that you have diarrhea?

We've been YMCA members for years and my SIL (who weighs about 500 lbs.) and I are doing both water aerobics and water boot camp. I was actually sweating in the water during the boot camp stuff. I love exercising but my problem is I just can't motivate myself, unless I am exercising with a buddy which is where my SIL comes in. She can't have her lap band surgery until she loses 100 lbs. to bring her BMI down. My BMI is 30, so I don't qualify for it either (your BMI is supposed to be 60). I weigh 180 and blame it on not exercising and snacking. I try to shop smart, but I do have half a pack of Oreos in the cabinet that I'm trying to stay away from.

OH, I also take several psych meds and a migraine med already...do you have to stop your meds to do this cleanse?

Blessings, Michelle

monkD, you should not do the master cleanse without talking to your doctor first. Some of psych meds and migraine meds (which are often also seizure meds) are very weight and diet sensitive. I don't have any specifics, but this could be a very dangerous diet for you. I'd talk to the doc first.
