We ALWAYS bought our kids Columbia...
I loved the coat/pant sets with the double reinforced knees...They would keep our kids toasty warm, and usually lasted 2 seasons. Welcome back! Last edited by lovemy2boys : 01-05-2009 at 12:51 PM. |

Fran,
Do you get the separates? Or is yours a one piece? I definately like the separates better...and so did the boys. |

Columbia here too. Snowpants and 3-in-1 coat. The boots aren't Columbia though. They're Penney's. But they have Thinsulate and that's what counts.
As for gloves, I'd prefer mittens but DD won't keep them on so we gave up and got the ones with fingers. She LOVES them. |

We have 2 snowsuits (okay was have 5, but we have 2 that I use most) the first is all fleece and is LL Bean, I use that on the really really cold days when I decide that Ty is wearing a snowsuit even if she screams the whole time he's in the car (which has gotten better). Then I have a London Fog one-piece that has the attached mittens and boots that is the water repelant fabric for when we pull him around in the sled outside. I might also use it if it was pouring out, I'm not sure...haven't had a day like that. He doesn't have boots, and I think I'll skip them this year since he's JUST starting to pull up and I don't think he'll be walking well enough for shoes till spring or summer (please god, let that be true)
I love LL Bean stuff for outside, and next year I might try to do the snow pants and jacket from their. I don't know about boots though.

That's where Joe's first boots were from - Stride Rite...
His feet used to be so wide we'd say they were square - lol... And the stride rite seemed to be ok for him |

Yeah my friend calls E Fred Flintstone feet (actually she then realized he looks much more like Barney Rubble!) And I can't really argue that fact!

Shop resale while you still can!
LL Bean, Lands End, Rothschild, all good. Two piece best, no bib if l'il one needs to "go" in a hurry! At least one size larger than clothes to fit more layers and extend two years' wear. Mittens keep hands warmer than gloves. Hoods can be hazardous. I always found that little ones' feet did not get really cold like grownups. Cheaper boots are fine as long as (1) they are waterproof and (2) they have removable liners for sweaty feet. Foam liners are more comfortable and sometimes wick better than felt although I suppose felt is probably warmer. Fleece socks can be nice if they stay up. We always went a size or two larger on boots than shoe size. I've found that boots with a seam and suede are not waterproof no matter what the tag says. Vaseline on the face when temps are below freezing. Have fun! |
