Baby's Room Lighting Suggestions!

First, do you guys all use nightlights? The kind that plug in? He's going to pull it out and we don't even have a plug visible from his crib anymore anyway....

Then there are the kind that you charge, or with batteries. Does anyone use those? Is the solution a dimmer?

Also, I want to put little white christmas lights up in his room around the ceiling. Does anyone know where I can get just a white string of tiny lights for that purpose? I think it would be different than the Christmas Tree lights....

Thanks! He was up crying again because the room was too dark. He likes it light but it's too light!

In Spencer's room, we have a nightlight that is built into a plug cover. We had to take the old plug cover off and screw this one on. So, it canot be pulled out of the wall. And it has a plastic cover over the bulb so little fingers can't touch the bulb. (We got it in the safety section at the baby store.)

In Cameron's room we have a little lamp. It is one of those $10 lamps from Target. It can take up to (I think) a 25 watt bulb. We keep a 4 watt nightlight bulb in it so it is not quite as bright. It sits on top of his dresser so he cannot get to it.

Both my kids need some light, plus I need it when I check on them! Spencer's night light we bought during our ICPC stay because he screamed the first night unless we kept the light on in the room. (Darn NICU...)

We use a nightlight that plugs in that has a little lever on it where we can change the intensity of the light. It's not very bright. We have it more for us than him, though, because we usually get "called" in there a couple of times a night to replug and light is definitely needed to find the pacifier . Which reminds me that I need to start a post for help on how to get him off his pacifier, which I'll do after this so I don't hijack your post. I'm not sure on the Christmas lights-sorry not much help there. Thanks for your post, though-it reminded me that, now that our son has JUST started crawling, I probably should get a nightlight that he can't rip out of the wall.

We don't have any light at night, but the door is open and the light is always on downstairs (mostly because it's a pain to get to and we would probably step on a toy on the way back lol), so they still have a bit of light.

We have 3 nightlights in our son's room and we leave a light on, it's a lower wattage bulb that we'll eventually ween him off of I guess. I sleep with a light on at one end of the room so I really don't mind that my son does.

Sabrina sleeps in a dark room with the door closed. If there is any light or the door is open, she thinks it's playtime and will get pretty angry if you don't come get her out of the crib. During the day, sure there's some light in her room coming from the windows but she still sleeps with the door closed. When she was waking at night, I left a small lamp on with a 25 watt bulb so I wouldn't have to turn on the overhead light to change diapers and feed her.

When my daughter was little, my husband installed a dimmer switch in her room so we could just keep the light on 'low.' So if you are DH are handy that would be an option.

We also have a plastic light shapped like a star from IKEA (they also have/had moons) with a low watt bulb that makes a great nightlight. It plugs in like a lamp, but mounts on the wall so you don't need a flat surface like with a lamp and it can't be pulled down like a lamp.

We have a plug in but DD is good about first thing in the morning taking it out and handing it to me to put out of reach.

We also have the Cloud B Twilight Ladybug. They now offer a Twilight Turtle. E might enjoy it if he makes it though the night which I believe he does. We also set ours up next to the crib so that DD can reach it through the slats and turn it back on when she wakes up. She has done this in the past when we were working on getting her to sleep through the night. LOL. Twilight Turtle

We have a plug-in nightlight that's actually located behind behind a short bookshelf. She can't really get to it, but the shelf is so short that the light is still able to light the room sufficiently.

This time of year, we are always running their humidifiers, so we use the light on those. For our older son, who is almost 5, we have a plug in night light. The baby, 23mos, likes it dark.

Does his room have an over head ceiling mounted light? If so could you install a dimmer switch on it?

You could also try one of those battery operated lights that you can put in closets and other places that you push to turn on. You probably could mount that fairly close to the crib on the wall and that might put off enough light.

DD has two wall mounted night lights both plug in. One near the dresser that we leave on all night for her. One near the crib that we leave on until we put her down for naps and for the night.....so we can see to change her diaper....if we need to in the middle of the night.

I vote dimmer switch.

I have them all over my house - great for watching Movies, working late and...uh setting the mood...

I'm sure you can find a handyman on Craigslist who can come install one for you for a decent price.
