Teething
I know this is a topic that keeps getting recycled - but I clearly didn't pay enough attention the other times it came up!
My poor bug is getting 5 new teeth. When he got his first two teeth a couple of months ago, it didn't seem to bother him. Then nothing until now and . . . BAM - they're all coming at once. He's not sleeping too well and he's waking even earlier than usual - fussy and uncomfortable. Not like him at all. He usually wakes with a smile. I've been giving him Tylenol but it seems only marginally helpful. Is Ibuprofen better? He also chews on his cold teethers, but again, it doesn't seem to help much. (And he doesn't like holding them in his hands either.) My guess is that nothing is going to make him truly comfortable, but if anyone has suggestions of things I haven't thought of, D and I would both appreciate it. |

Ibuprofen works much better for my son than tylenol. We're dealing with the same thing. My son got in 2 teeth in August and has 4 coming in right now.
Have you tried any baby orajel? My son has a hard time handling secretions anyway, so it didn't work great for him. It might for healthy kids though.

DS is in the same boat at the moment... He has 4 teeth coming out
Thankfully it doesn't seem to prevent him from sleeping at night (he slept 13 hours last night, lol), but he's not napping well and he's very fussy overall. It's been this way for a week now... Ugh.I have tylenol but don't really want to give it as it's been linked to asthma apparently... I need to get some ibuprofen or something... Ibuprofen's always worked better for me than tylenol, but it's harder on the stomach, and it's made me sick several times if I took some when my stomach wasn't full, so I'm a bit wary... |

We save the Tylenol/Motrin for fevers or after immunizations. Hylands works for us (I know some people worry about the bella dona but it's good for us!) and we use them sparingly. If your baby can't or won't hold teething toys you are right, kind of limited! we used oral gel in the VERY beginning a couple of times, not sure it helped.
E is 16 months today and STILL wears his little Bandit Bibs every day pretty much. We are in a perpetual state of teething around here!

Ohh, I'm sorry your kids are going through this, too. But thanks for the feedback. I agree that I want to do the medications sparingly, but I've never seen him this uncomfortable. I think I'll try the ibuprofen on a full stomach and see if it helps. Herbal/natural products make me a little nervous because they aren't FDA regulated. (Of course, I'm feeling a little jaded about the FDA these days, too . . .)
Fran - I don't think my son has EVER slept 13 hours at a stretch!! ![]() |

My son is tube fed so I always give the motrin after at least 90 cc's. Honestly, I'm not one to hesitate very long to give my son something OTC. I've seen him in pain way too much, so motrin and tylenol aren't a big deal to me. I'm just happy it's not fentanyl and versed! ![]()

Frozen face cloths work well, too. Take a face cloth, wet it and freeze it. When it frozen, give it to the wee one.

My son was a terrible teether and my dd is starting now.
Here's what helped for us: Hyland's teething tables (we call them the Happy Pills!) are awesome. Camillia drops work pretty good too. Baltic Amber Teething necklaces - I didn't get one until my son was cutting his 2 year molars and it was sooooo rough for him. I got one and tried it and WOW! Now my daughter uses it.
