I know, I know. We actually watch a Christmas movie at my sisters on Christmas Eve. But, they are usually not something appropriate for my son - he's the youngest. I expect Fred Claus this year. Past years have been ELF, Christmas Vacation, etc.
Maybe I'll bring Polar Express and try to push watching that one. |

My kidlets adore Shrek the Halls. We're all big Shrek addicts here, lol! Its really funny, cause I had told my dh in private that he reminded me of Shrek, and then a few days later, Tazzie was pointing at Shrek and announcing, "Like you, Daddy!" lol!
I love, love, LOVE A Christmas Story...and Its A Wonderful Life. My kids also love Grinch, Rudolph, Frosty...if its animated, they're in. Oh, and Sound of Music. Dunno WHY that's a Christmas movie, but its on every year. Course, I'm married to a man that insists that Die Hard is a Christmas movie

Geez, Melissa, Die Hard IS a Christmas movie.......
Our family favorite is The Year Without a Santa Claus. GREAT songs in it. Basic premise is that Santa decides kids aren't into Santa anymore, and he decides to take a vacation. Kids realize that Christmas has always been about them, and that this year should be about Santa. So they make him gifts, and it's really cute. Side story is that Santa wants a nice day at the North Pole, so Mrs. Claus has to go see Mother Nature's two sons, Snow Miser and Heat Miser. GREAT songs in that part, did I mention????? ![]() It is our all time favorite. We also are big fans of the Charlie Brown/Snoopy Christmas - when he gets the lame tree, and they all sing, and I just love that, too. (sniff, sniff) The boys really love the Grinch, the old cartoon one, not that nasty thing with Jim Carrey. They also like the Night Before Christmas, with the mouse side story of the naughty boy mouse who does something bad and then does his best to fix it. Okay, I watch WAY too much tv........... Sandy

Okay, you guys have inspired me to go to Amazon and add a bunch of these to my wishlist. I'm keeping track there of all the books and dvds I want to buy for the future baby, so I can buy one here and there all along while I wait.
As for me, I adore Christmas movies (and Christmas music, for that matter ... I have a ridiculously large collection of Christmas songs on my iPod). My favorites are the Claymation Rudolph with Burl Ives (I even just bought the soundtrack) and It's a Wonderful Life. Ooh, and Miracle on 34th Street (the old and new ones are both charming). And I never get tired of A Christmas Story. My parents always makes us watch Jingle All the Way, that one from the 90s with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad going on a crazed quest for a Christmas toy.

I actually OWN every movie you mentioned on videotape, along with Frosty, Frosty Returns, The Year Without a Santa Claus (my favorite too!), the Santa Clause, The Santa Clause 2, The Santa Clause 3, Polar Express, Elf, The Little Dummer Boy and Rudolph the Land of Misfit Toys.
I'm sure I'm missing something too! I started collecting kids videos when my niece was born 21 years ago! I didn't think I would be collecting them for 16 years until I had my own child! |

I love, love, love, The Santa Clause. It's one of my all-time favorite holiday movies. I never get sick of watching it. I watch it every year while wrapping Christmas presents. I also love any holiday movies with Bing Crosby-like Holiday Inn or White Christmas. I also love A CHRISTMAS CAROL with the guy from Star Trek (don't remember his name)-but it's on tv for the whole month of December.

Mickey's Christmas Carol is my favorite. I don't know if it will be airing, but a friend said she ordered it for her son this year.

I love ALL versions of A Christmas Carol - in fact my best friend from childhood and I get together every holiday season and watch "Scrooge," a musical version from the 1960s with Albert Finney. We've done this every year - with a couple of years off here and there - since we were about 12 years old.
![]() For kids - I can't wait till DD is old enough to enjoy Charlie Brown X-mas and the Grinch (original cartoon). But I remember being scared as a kid by "Rudolph's Happy New Year" so that one's not on my list.

OK, we watched A Charlie Brown Christmas - he loved it.
I went through the TV listings and DVR'd a few to try. I may have to prescreen. I never thought about the classics like Holiday Inn and White Christmas. Those are great shows and won't scare him. I did see that Mickey's Christmas Carol will be on soon. I'll try that one. My favorite is the Muppet Christmas Carol, but I'm thinking the ghosts may be a little too much for a 3 year old. Maybe next year. |

OOH! I forgot about Muppet Christmas Carol. I think I might have that one too! I gotta look. Q would love that one.
I also have Santa Claus The Movie. I remember waiting in line with my mom and my sister at the theater when we were little to see that one. If you haven't seen it, it's fun! I have Benji's Christmas too. My son likes that one too. |

Another fav is that typical goofy 80's take on a classic, Scrooged with Bill Murray (not a kids movie) but I love Bill Murray. We still use one of the funniest quotes when we're semi annoyed or goofing off with each other...."Oh, what is this _____? Oh, oh, look _____. It's a toaster!!" [very gently bonk loved one on the head] (you have to use the Carol Kane voice for that one

As usual, I'm lost. We didn't have a TV until I was 14, so no Christmas movies. We did go ice skating A LOT though!!
Last year we showed Sam bits of the Polar Express (he was 18 months). We fast forwarded through the "scary" or intense parts. He could NOT get ENOUGH. After the holidays, we shelved it for a year. My dad whipped it out on Thanksgiving. Sam, now 2.5 but not having seen or talked about it for a year, said, "The ticket...the ticket..." (those of you who are familiar with the PE will know what I mean. He said that just from hearing the words "Polar Express." It BLEW my mind!
