Is Your House a Giant Playroom?
I was just wondering how much every else accommodates their children's toys/equipment and gear in their homes. When someone walks into your house do they trip over a toy? Or is the playroom somewhere completely separate with the toys completely out of the way?
Even if we had a big house with a playroom, I doubt I would be able to keep the toys contained since I don't want to spend MY day in the playroom and DS is too young to play alone for long. I would say ours is a giant playroom. But I do get mostly pretty toys made of wood etc. and we do keep them in baskets etc... What about you? ![]()

yes, yes, and yes! If you walk into our house I hope you're prepared to trip over, step on, or dodge multiple toys! I try to keep them picked up sometimes but it's really kind of a lost cause so most of the time the family room / kitchen is free will for little man. Honestly though, I have an extra bedroom (for now) that I could clean out and let him play in but to me I would rather have him out in the family room and kitchen where we're at!
The other day I said, "let's pick up our toys" and I realize he's pretty young to be trying that. However, he sat there and looked at me and said "nuh-uh". I said yes, come on ... nuh, uh. I couldn't believe it! Then he did go pick up his "laptop" to bring it over to the wall we line up toys, of course that was one I already had put away in the basket! Gotta love 'em! |

When the kids were small, you betcha! I had those plastic "cubby" drawers for them in my dining room and also had some baskets of toys that I'd put "away" under the piano. LOL!
Now they have 2 rooms in the house that most of the toys are contained to. Especially the legos...egads! You never want to step on those barefoot...OUCH! The computers are set up in one room along with their t.v./movies etc. and the other room is mostly the toys. With winter coming though, we'll be seeing more toys around the main living areas since their "toy room" is over the garage and doesn't have heat. I don't mind it as long as they pick up after they are done.

We live in a gated community, basically, the living room is gated and most of her toys are in there. she also has a few in her room and a few in our home office, but the rest of the house is pretty much toyfree.

For now only the living room. I'm still trying to figure out what we will do when they want to get out of there, so they don't get pushed down by the dogs and the dogs don't steal their toys...
I wish we could just make the computer room a playroom, but the dogs crates are in there and it's 'their' room, so I don't think it would go so well if we kicked them out. |

Between the basement, garage and playroom, we can open our own mini toys r us!!!
Our kids decided to share a room, so the other is a designated toy room...We bought those cube shelves with the pop up cube bins...BEST INVESTMENT EVER!!! They each have a "color" and a third color for shared toys...Each "type" of toy has a bin ie: legos, cars, superheros, etc. The kids pull out the bins they want to play with, (usually in the living room - lol) everything is all there, and it makes clean up a snap! The garage and basement are not so um...neat. We have those bins that lay on an angle on shelves...They are useless in our house - lol... And yes, I have a touch of OCD which explains the bins, color coding and routine...My family just LOVES that about me! |

My house is filled with toys and baby stuff as my neice and nephew come to visit everyday. They are 15 months and 3 yo. As soon as they walk in the door
the toys are all over the floor, on the tables and stuffed animals and blankets strawn all over the furniture. Cheerios, cheetos, gold fish, milk, juice and an occasional yogurt dripped ,crunched or thrown acrossed the floor, the windows have little nose and finger prints all over them... Yep, my house is a mess (daily), but the dog helps clean up as much as he can Sandra

I'm lucky enough to have a room that we've set aside for a playroom. I run a daycare so it's a part of my business. As a kid, my mom and dad designated a large hallway as our playroom. They kept our toy chest there and we were allowed to have toys anywhere else, except our bedrooms.

I spend all day 4 days a week in a playroom! Watching my niece is like romper room extreme
My sis's house is 1st floor powder room, foyer, kitchen, dinning room, living room. LR and DR are connected and one big playroom essentially. I can be in the kitchen making a sippy and see my niece at all angles. It's a great set up and she has those 2 big rooms to run around in. She's really good with clean up too, started doing it on her own while watching us. Now we do the Barney "clean up" song and dances around while picking up this and that. (She's 20 months)We'll do the same once we have our own little one. I think walking into a house and seeing toys is just about the best thing ever. They make some of the cutest storage solutions nowadays too. Once kids got older I might do a seperate palyroom, but I'd never say "toys only stay in there" or anything like that. With 3 large dogs I'm not stepping on blocks and fisher price right now, but every other step creates a squeak (the dogs have 3 toy bins, no lie)!! |

Aside from the large items like her bean bag, swing, boppy chair, bouncer and kitty rug.....which there is just no way to hide.......all the other toys live in a storage ottoman. That way when company is coming over......we can just throw the lot in and the room looks picked up!
Thankfully the larger items are divided between two rooms...the downstaris family room and the living room.....other wise we would completely have to move our furniture out to make room for her stuff. LOL ![]()

I have small baskets of toys in each boys' bedroom, and one in the LR. There are lots of books in every room, even mine! But the majority of toys are in the basement. 500 square feet of playroom, and it is FULL! I am having such a hard time coming up with Christmas presents, since they have EVERYTHING and need nothing! It seriously looks like Toys R Us threw up in the basement. I have a baby monitor down there so the boys can play and I can hear to make sure they aren't getting into major trouble. It works for us!

Same here and it's just A's stuff. The girls keep the majority of their toys in their rooms; I worry about the small pieces. But A's stuff is everywhere! He has three 3 push toys, two toy boxes, his spiderman chair, and a horse just in the living room! All the overflow is in the basement and his room. I am still wondering what the heck we are going to do with all the Christmas presents he gets!!!

We have a small house too and every room has toys other than my son's room. He has teen stuff so no toddler toys.
You can't walk in our house without hurting your feet. LOL. |
