Toddler Nap Schedules, any other AM Nappers Out There?

I always heard that when toddlers cut back to one nap it's usually the morning nap they lose. E is a real morning napper. He always goes down for a long one about 3 hours after he wakes up. Then he's down for about 2 hours and then up up up until 8 but also for me because I have like 8 straight hours to keep him occupied.

I stopped doing mornings at the gym because he just get so tired toward the end and sometimes falls asleep in the car on the way home (and you know what THAT does to the nap schedule). So now that it's winter we just go out once a day, after his lunch and putter around in the morning.

Does anyone have any ideas how I could move his nap time later?

You could try delaying it every day by 10 minutes at a time or something...

You're courageous to go out once a day, lol...

But yeah I can see how the gym would be out. Those catnaps are in the car are a killer. Probably best to go in the afternoon, plus it would give you a break also...

yeah. Stinks because i have the most energy in the AM

He'll have to start napping later eventually though because I ended up signing up for a twos program next year which goes 9:15-11:15 twice a week.

Fran don't you find staying in all days can drive you mad?

My 18-month old is usually up by 7:30 a.m. and down for her first nap by 9:30 a.m. or 10:00. She usually wakes between 11:30 & noon.

After lunch and playtime, she generally goes back for an afternoon nap at 1:30 or 2:00 p.m. and naps until 3:00 or 3:30 p.m.

She is also in bed by 6:30 p.m.

Oh yes it does. One day is fine, the next day less fine... it eats you little by little... and you're crabby and insane by the end of the week, lol!

I usually try to go out once or twice a week, but it's been cold (and snowing today), and dragging two babies out in the cold is just a pain. Plus you have to put warm clothes on them, but it's not too safe in the car, and they might overheat in the store, so you spend your time putting the jacket on and off Plus I know that if I go out I'll just end up spending more money...

I wish it was May already...

Mumofone, my two have the same schedule now (although they go to bed at 7pm). I think I would be overjoyed if they still had the same schedule in 9 months!

No advice really. But you have my sympathy! I homeschool a disabled middle schooler, so I can't go out in the afternoons and D's nap makes morning outings chancy. We go for walks but he often falls asleep in the baby carrier and then I have to tiptoe and hold my breath hoping I can get him into his crib without waking him up!

Maybe a slow adjustment to a later nap but without a morning outing that might sabotage it? I know that doesn't help immediately, but maybe by the time your class starts he'll be used to a later nap.

Fran, all of my kiddos were on the same schedule. lol

There are a few occasions where my youngest misses her naps because of an appt. etc., and then we all pay. lol

M just takes one nap and it is in the morning from around 10:00-12:00. She has been doing this since she was 11 months old. She refuses to take an afternoon nap. She generally goes to sleep at night around 6:30 or 7:00 and will sleep 12 hours, but by the time 7:00 rolls around she is exhausted!

On school days A. wakes up around 7:00 and on the weekends I am lucky if he will sleep till 7:45. He naps b/t 10:00 and 11:00; depending on if we have therapy that day. He will sleep till around 12:00 or 1:00. He is in bed by 7:00pm for the night.
