OT: Daddy, What Do We Celebrate?

My 3.5 yo DD on the way home from preschool: Daddy, what do we celebrate?

DH: You mean what holiday? Christmas.

DD: I want to celebrate Hanukkah!

DH: We celebrate Christmas.

DD: NO! I will celebrate Hanukkah. You can celebrate Christmas and Mama gets New Years.

This kid cracks me up....and why do I get the one holiday with NOOOOO presents!!?

That is so cute! I love the way little kids think! (Though you may need to negotiate a holiday rotation so you get a present once in a while. )

That's too cute, love...

When AJ was 4, he tried to convince me that the Wisemen brought baby Jesus a remote control car for Christmas...

Kids are a stitch!

Ooooh, good strategy. Think DH will believe Joseph gave Mary a diamond journey pendant?

Marco keeps going to the nativity set and talking to Baby De Dah. He is having whole unintelligible conversations over there!! He tells De Dah good night and goodbye, and blows him kisses!

Other funny story - we put the tree up yesterday, and I was out of the room and heard crash! crash! crash!

Marco was standing in front of the tree, with a bat, hitting the balls off! He grinned at me and said, "baseball!!" Now there are no ornaments on the bottom half of the tree.

It just may work...and in the meantime, tell him Joseph also gave Mary a gift certificate for Merry Maids because it was impossible to keep the manger clean while caring for a newborn baby!

They'll fall for it....right?

But you DO get the one with unlimited champagne - not bad!

From dividing up holidays to dividing up deities - this reminds me of a conversation I remember having with a friend when I was around your DD's age. My family is Jewish, and my friend's family was Christian. We were trying to figure out the difference between being Jewish and being Christian, and my friend said:

"Well there's God and there's Jesus. And I know that Christians believe in God, so that means that Jews must believe in Jesus!"

I KNEW that just wasn't right, but I couldn't figure out why for the longest time . . .

Sometimes I think we'd all be better off if we let kids do our reasoning for us.

Dawn: ROFL I would love to see Christmas tree baseball! And I think it's sweet that he talks to Baby De Dah. You should get it on tape.
I captured DD hugging our sweeper last night for posterity.

OMG, Dawn, I would love to see a video of "Christmas tree baseball!" Too funny!!!

Saya, I hate to admit this now but my brother was 10 years older and his best friend was Jewish. I was a really scary "Catholic" kid....read the lives of the saints, wanted to lie on a bed of nails. Anyway, from some kind of somewhere, I got this tidbit: When I was five, I told bro's best friend that he had to leave the house because the Jews killed my Lord Jesus Christ....My parents were mortified (somehow Jesus being Jewish slipped thru the cracks!).

That's OK love - I'll intercede with the Zionist Occupational Government and tell them to take you off their list. . .

I agree kids can be so funny.....

One year my niece and nephew refused to sing any Christmas songs.....they would only sing the Dreidel song....they had learned it at Montessori and thought it was by far better than Jingle Bells.
