Oceanica,

What about a gift certificate for a night out at a really nice restaurant? I know this is kind of a gift for both of you, but my DH loves when I do this...

I buy him a gift certificate to our special place, and either a gift card to a movie theater or tickets to a show that we both want to see...

And then we have a really great night out!

This year money is super tight, so I'm getting my DH a sweatshirt with the boys' school's logo so he can wear it to games.

we have tried to set limits before and DH never sticks to them. This year he has promised to stick to it with the financial issues. So $100 per person for us, DD is done already and SS is one big one small (being a teen they cost so much). Everyone else $15 limit as we get gifts for all neices and nephews and no adults this year.

He hates fishing and doesn't like sports. If I give him something like an electric razor or cologne he will take it back or never use it. There is nothing. To make matters worse his birthday is a few weeks after christmas in january. He does like to cook but he already has everything for that.
Since we adopted Athena recently some kind of new Dad thing would be the only idea I could come up with.

What about the Top Chef cookbook? Especially if he is a fan of the show... I was impressed with the quality of the book (picture quality, etc.) although I have yet to try any of the recipes.

I think he just wants me to be less snippy with him!!!!

We did a $50 limit one year and it was actually really fun. This year, we are so broke, we decided we would buy an item that maybe we could both enjoy (yeah, like the new furnace we need...sigh!). I can't really complain since we just had our 10th year wedding anniversary and my 40th birthday and they were both great.

All my DH wants (and never gets Lol) is alone time. At least it is inexpensive. I just told him that to keep it on his wish list. With five kids (ages 17 to 3, one with mild and one severe special needs) I am lucky to take a shower!!!
I think I will buy him some new clothes.

The Top chef cookbook is a good idea, and the restaurant gift certificate and the apron, although he hasn't used aprons before.
He likes top chef and Hell's kitchen. I just thought of something. He would like a dvd set of old episodes of Family ties, green acres, sanford and son, and who's the boss. We already have some of three's company, all in the family, macguyver, and little house on the prarie and we watch them while eating dinner sometimes when we want to watch tv and there is nothing on.

christmas gift for spouse.. knives

OK his knives can barely slice a tomato. Last year I bought a set by kitchen aid and he doesn't like them and they also aren't very sharp. I want to get some really sharp knives, not flimsy like the kitchen aid ones, and don't want to pay more than 100$... preferably significantly less. Any suggestions?
