Florida adoption from out of state?
We have been looking into adoption lawyers and agencies in FL. We are in another state where independent social workers can be certified to provide home studies. However, some of the FL lawyers & agencies we have contacted have told us that only a homestudy completed by an agency will fulfill FL requirements, and then others are telling us that this is not a problem. So we don't know what to believe. Anybody out there do an interstate adoption from FL? If so, who did your home study--agency or independent social worker?

We used Adoption Support Services. They only do home studies and are not an adoption agency.

Thanks for the reply. But to clarify, we are in SC (not FL). So we are not looking for home study agencies in FL. We just need to know it the home study has to be prepared by an agency or if it can be done by an independent social worker certified to be a homestudy provider.

Our homestudy was done by Catholic Charities here in Hawaii, to bring our nephew home to us. It took forever, but we had no choice about who would do it as he was already in foster care. I will PM you our attorney if you'd like. She was excellent, worth every penny and more.

Hi...we adopted Joshie from FL and we live in MO. We used a private SW from our state who I wouldn't recommend if she was the last one alive. We used an agency for our post placement visits and I wish to God we had used the same agency for our homestudy. The SW was very disorganized and didn't even get our names right and we just barely got it in time for the placement. Thankfully, everything worked out in the end and now Joshie is ours...read my siggy for timeline.
PM me if you are still looking for a FL agency/atty. Blessings, Michelle

Hello! We are from NH and used a social worker here in our state to do our homestudy and post-placement reports. We adopted from Florida and it was no problem that we used an out-of-state homestudy agency.
