Brothers and Sisters SPOILER ALERT
So, what did you all think? Hmm, wasn't it like 3 weeks ago that they had their home study meeting? So um, the home study in real life wouldn't even probably be complete yet, would it? And even if it was, how could they be matched already? I guess they gotta speed it up for Tv, huh?

Haha....I was thinking the same thing! I was thinking "their clearances wouldn't even be back yet...let alone have a profile ready to be chosen by an emom!" And their initial meeting with the SW was a little far fetched too I thought. But for the sake of TV I guess it's ok.

I love this show! The show moved pretty fast when Tommy and his wife were struggling with infertility too. It seemed like they got pregnant instantly after discovering their fertility issue. Oh, the wonders of tv! I just hope that the show portrays the emom in a positive way. I know Calista Flockhart adopted her son, so maybe she'll make sure the show is more sensitive to the adoption process than other shows seem to be.

I just started watching this show this season, and I am starting to like it.
I watched it last night, and when she received the call that she'd been chosen, she said that a birthmom had picked them. My point is that she isn't a birthmom until TPR. Maybe, I am way too sensitive to these things. I wonder what stupid things I might have said before we started our first adoption years ago. But with Calista having adopted herself, I would think that she would know. KWIM?

Mumofone....I tell ya, if she called the woman a birthmom one more time I was gonna break the TV.
And in the previews for next week did it look like they were surprised that the emom was African American? I barely watched the clips from next week (I was walking out of the room) but I thought I saw that....uh, wouldn't they have said if they were open to AA/biracial/Non-white kids?? I'll have to go back and check on the Tivo....

I haven't watched my TIVO yet but I am not surprised on this. They always speed things up for TV. Then again, when it comes to pregnancies, they slow those down sometimes to 12 mnths

TG - I also saw that I believe the emom is AA. If that is the case then NO it isn't crazy they already would be matched. Sad.
Anyways, I thought they did a pretty good job with it, though I did hate they used the term bmom at the same time it is commonly used & especially for TV for the "less" educated public it would show who they meant. I hope it ends up as a good story line, I think so far it's been really cool. I love how she is obsessing & was afraid to get her hopes up. Oh yeah - one line I hated "She is giving us her baby." Though being in that emotional moment ourselves, I understand what she meant, it's a very very powerful emotion. Oh and I think they were surprised that the NURSE was the bmom, not that she was AA. I thought they were thinking they would meet the patient there. I would have been surprised too! OHHH I hope they adopt an AA child, but it not turn into a circus even better if it wasn't made into a big deal at all (to a point). That would open SO many hearts (even just a tiny crack).

Thanks vogi
I will be thrilled beyond belief if the emom is just a regular woman, that's a nurse, that's not a total nutjob! It would be of great relief to be painted in a realistic light!I too really hated the "She's giving us her baby!" moment, though I let it slide because it seemed like a moment of such pure emotion. However, I "get" that it's TV for a possibly less educated public - BUT it could have been a great opportunity to subtley educate that public kwim? I mean, Calista is a Mother through adoption herself....if I were in her shoes I would want to make sure it was represented well....slipping up by saying birthmom like seven times wasn't ok with me....I mean, they could have had Sally Fields call her bmom and have Calista correct her or something - I think that really would have worked with Calista's nerves. Something like, "No Mom, she's not a birthmom yet, she's just an expectant Mom...nothing is for sure yet!" Because she DID do a good job saying she could change her mind - which I appreciated. maybe I'm just too picky ![]() (Oh, and I think it would be great if it was an AA child too )ETA: I use a lot of smileys!!!

TG - I agree. I don't think it's an excuse to use birthmom in that case. I tell you if it was my show I would certainly use that oppurtunity! BUT I still know many many aparents who don't realize how using birthmother before placement can be so negative. *sigh* wouldn't that be awesome if the birthmother stood up and said "I'm not a birthmother yet" and calista said "oh I never thought of it but you are so right."

For us my husband and I we didn't have anything done. Make a long story short we were going to adopt from Guatamala in 2003 but they had closed adoption at that time. They agency knew what we did for a living and I knew the director from an outside way (didn't even know she was the director of the agency we were planning to adopt from) anyhow she knew what we did ask if we were interested in being considered for this domestic situation. We were made a super quick profile and a week later chosen as the adoptive family. Five weeks later GAbe was born. During this time we speed and worked our behinds off getting after done before he arrived. It was a crazy time in our lives to say the least. Just thought you might find this interesting but know and feel blessed this happen this way for us.
