Birth announcement etiquette
Hello,
Now that we have a finalization date , I'm starting to think about birth announcements. Do people usually add "adopted" on birth announcements? If so, do you use the date of placement or the date of finalization? Any other advice? Thanks, |

We did our wording the old fashioned way....after TPR but before finalization. It looked like a regular birth announcement but I wish I had chosen a different picture!!!!! He looks nothing like himself in it. LOL
Congrats!

We did ours before finalization too. We did not add the word "adopted" on ours. We just put "new addition" or something like that.

Also did a standard birth announcement. I might send out something else after we finalize (if it ever happens) so people stop asking if the legal stuff is done yet. Everyone asks us.

We did ours after TPR and before finalization as well. We just mentioned that our daughter had been born, without mention of her being adopted (like that was a surprise..).

Well, when its our time, we'll be adopting an older child, so for us, it will be more of a 'Happy to announce our newest family member' sort of thing, as a birth announcement wouldn't work, lol

We sent our announcement at placement (10 days old, after tpr) and said "birthparents S and J lovingly placed CJ in our arms" Our friends and family knew we were pursuing adoption...I felt it wasn't necessary to spell it out or to hide it, it is just the way he came into our family. It was also a way to introduce S and J to our family and friends as they have now met most of them.

We also did not wait until finalization. But I did birth date, weight, height, etc. Then I put: Gleefully placed into our arms on March 14. (Date TPR happened.)

announcement
We waited until after finalization to announce, which took about 9 months-- so we took our first "professional" family picture together after finalization (daughter was 10 months old) and added a beautiful poem about her joining our forever family.
Then wrote her name birthdate welcomed into our family on (placement date) adoption finalized on(court date) We got alot of compliments on it. We didnt include all the adoption stuff to point out she was adopted (all our friends and family knew that) but more to notify our friends and family of special dates of celebration. We dont typically point out our daughter is adopted but we felt this is what we were celebrating at the time of the announcement so it was important to us to include all those precious dates! |

We chose to "officially" announce our son's birth after finalization. Having adopted twice before, our families and friends were familiar with the legal process that took months to complete. All have been anxiously waiting to hear the words "forever ours".

My announcment from back in the dark days read "look who adopted us." and then the date I came home with mom and dad.

Mom and Dad are visiting and we're going to Al's for pie to celebrate. 4-27-2009 Dad surprises me with a Lady Ugly Stick (an awesome fishing rod that is pink) and a 2nd Iowa Light Artillery Battery jacket. I'm a lucky girl! 5-30-2009 Kiddo turns five. It is hard to believe he is that old already, it seems like just yesterday he was being born. I was at peace for the first time on his birthday, what a nice feeling. 6-13&14 2009 A cannon live fire in Casper WY. We got third place and I got to see Devil's Tower for the first time, it was pretty awesome. 7-4-2009 Amelia the kitten comes to live with me and Liz. Talk about jealousy, Liz will adjust though. |
