This is our 1st Christmas with our baby and I decided to lay down the law NOW. We told everyone that we would be spending Christmas day at our house with our daughter and if people wanted to visit us on that day they could come over and visit! We do the weekend before Christmas with my family because we have a gigantic family get together with the gift exchange and everything. Then we do Christmas eve with DH's family. When I said we weren't running all over the nation for Christmas this year my parents were all about coming over to our house. DH's mother was not so enthused. We don't really speak to her anymore anyway for other reasons (our daughter is bi-racial and she used choice words in my house among other things). I would say just start your traditions now and stick with it. Some people won't be happy but they will just have to deal! It took a lot for my husband to explain to his family that me and DD are his FAMILY now. Once you get it out there people should come around.
