Direct Adoption
Hi All,
Popping over from the international adoption board for a question. We are in the middle of processing for an international adoption - pending US gov't approval of our I800A application. Yesterday we heard about a woman who is 5 months pregnant, part American Indian (not sure what tribe) and will be giving her child up for adoption. She wants to do a direct adoption and meet the potential parents before the baby arrives. My question is...what is a direct adoption? |

Sounds like she doesn't want to go through an agency, just wants to use an attny for paperwork. ICWA would still apply though...
Good Luck

This is usually called an "identified adoption." You as the PAPs should consult with an attorney or agency to see what the requirements are...also, just FYI, adopting a native american child has different "rules" and "procedures" (it's more complicated)...hopefully someone here can explain that better to you! good luck!
