Failed Adoption on House

Exactly what we need....another TV show showing a disrupted adoption...

emom's right? of course...I just think we see too much of this side of adoption and it ends up sensationalized....

What we really need are more screenwriters who have personal experience in the adoption triad...

Totally agree...

I don't mind that they portrayed a disruption...I mind that all we ever see is disruptions...

Aclee, about 15 or 20 years ago, it seemed like every adoption-related movie I watched on television portrayed birthmoms as kidnappers. It drove me crazy....

I haven't watched House in a few wks...May have to catch this one.

Not to sound...snarky...or anything, but it honestly makes me kinda relieved that when we adopt it will be via CPS, and an older child. I know that there are problems with that route as well, but at least its not as...vulnerable...in the sense that once the placement is made (talking a straight adoption, with TPR already done) I won't live in fear that someone can just change their mind...I honestly don't know how you guys manage through that. Truly. I'd lose it.

I hated how this ended. Cutty (sp?) was just like, "no you can't do this." Grrr, where was the SW? And did you notice how of course the mom was a drug user? One more check for the stereotype of a birthmom. I know this hurts first hand, but it was handled very poorly.

On a side note: Brothers and Sisters is hitting adoption too, as well as 30 Rock this season.

You should go talk to MassachusettsMom on the foster care forum. (Not sure if the child in her situation was TPR'd or not though)
Many a TPR'd Child has been pulled from a "pre-adoptive" home because a relative ended up adopting...

Every road has it it's pot holes...for us, I think the foster care road will be bumpier than our domestic road was.

No, I realize that. I was talking a straight adoption, legally free, totally. Not as a foster-adopt.

As I understand it, here anyways, once the child has been TPR'd, and in an adoptive home, its because all other avenues have been exhausted, and all that's left for permenancy is an adoptive home. From what I understand (and I could be totally wrong, but I got this from a good friend that's in the classes) finalization of the adoption can happen in 2wks - a year...depending on the child and family.

I totally understand in a foster/foster-adopt situation that anyone could pop up at any time.

You know one thing that has ALWAYS bothered me? That when a mother chooses to parent, its all fanfare and yee haw moments...but nobody ever thinks about the parents who were waiting and planning on this baby.

True story:
Went to school with a girl that was planning on placing her baby. Met the parents, spent months with them, they had a nursery all done up, etc. Five days after they took the baby home, she changed her mind.

THEN...she gave the child to her GRANDMOTHER to raise. She didn't parent the baby, her Grandmother did. I was so freaking angry when that all went down

Without going into my whole story....We parented a baby for over a week in our home. His mom changed her mind. It HURT beyond words and was the most difficult experience to date that I have had in my life. The fact is, is that people did think of us, after this happened. Cards, flowers, gifts, meals, etc... And the other huge fact is that birthparents have rights. The mom to the baby we had, had every right to change her mind. Her flesh and blood trumps the fact that we waited and planned on a baby. She loved her child, and when you experience that grief and pain that the mom goes through upon relinquishment it puts a lot of things into perspective.

Sorry, I wasn't clear...I was talking about in the media, movies, tv, etc.
