Our first adoption was around $17,000 I think, and we are waiting now for a next one, this time to be around $16,000. OUr rate will not go up or down, as it is a set fee that we have agreed to, based on our income. It is an agency, and they only do adoptions in our state.

Private agency domestic adoption, cost me about 13k. There was no travel involved, and that figure included all lawyer fees.

I won't count the kids that are already grown...(and they were international). However, first domestic agency adoption over six years ago: around 8k when you figure in homestudy, profiles, etc.
Next one, almost two years later: around 8k again. Next one, almost two years ago: 10k, not counting our travel and homestudy. (Our travel was to a place we have lots of friends/family, so it was more like a vacation too, KWIM?) Without travel, it was probably something around 12k. And now, we're just waiting...as it seems fees have increased DRAMATICALLY...and we can't use the adoption tax credit, because our tax liability is already at zero...so there you go..... To the OP, I read your fees, and I think the costs ARE high. I"m going to assume you're wanting a healthy CC baby? Even so, seems like those fees are pretty steep to me. Sincerely, Linny |

We adopted privately. The total cost including homestudy, travel, attorney's fees, post-placement visit, finalization, counseling for bmom, placing profile on-line. ETC...all expenses incurred came to about 12K all of which we got back in the tax credit in the same year our DS was born (2007). One of the reasons we chose to pursue private adoption was because we felt that agency fees were to expensive.

Private agency adoption. Total costs including agency fees, online profile, court, etc. were just under $9,000.

We have done 2 agency adoptions and both were under 15k total. That covers all travel, home study, post placements, etc.
45k seems VERY high to me.

wow all these seem a lot lower priced than I thought! We paid 16 thousand for a private adoption but I forgot to include the homestudy, etc which we'd had to pay earlier to the agency we started out with and the 2 post placement visits... I think it's going to be around 20 thousand total. I thought that was low compared to most adoptions but obviously it isn't!! I also thought that for aa babies it was less and obviously it isn't in this case. But as aclee pointed out about Ty, she's so worth it!!

Ours ended up being right at $5200 for a domestic interstate adoption. No agency; just lawyer fees and home study fees.

Wow.
Reading the adoption fees just blows my mind, and breaks my heart at the same time. Makes me wonder how many potential parents there are out there that want a child but couldn't manage the fees. For us, because we don't want an infant, we'll be going through CPS when we're ready, so there won't be any costs associated, aside from CPR/First Aid.

Our adoption was very inexpensive. We adopted a relative, so the Judge waived the homestudy. There were no medical bills, no bmom expenses. She was already in counseling that her medicaid paid for. She VTPR'D. The bfather was listed as unknown and no one had claimed the child on the Punative Falther's Registry, so right were terminated that way. After it was all said and done, we paid a little less than $1000.

I think I calculated the costs to be around $34k for us... That's including the homestudy, the hotel stay, the homestudy update, the attorney fees etc. And it was $2k more because it was twins. But we're going to get $23000 from taxes... although we're probably not going to get everything back, don't think we'd pay that much in taxes in five years.
We used an agency.

For us, we paid a LOT more than we would have had to if we lived in another state. MA makes everything illegal but paying through the nose for everything. hehe... You have to use an agency in MA....there just was no way it was going to be cheaper. If we had wanted to wait it out we might have found a situation in our state rather than traveling, but it only would have saved us about 3K...could have been a very long wait...

We adopted 3 times in 4 years. They were each under 13,000 with all said and done. But that was 8, 6 & 5 years ago. They were through a referral service. We had TWO agencies for each & an attorney. One agency for the Birthmoms & then ours. With our first adoption we had 2 attornies & 1 agency.
